i think it was originally a refurb baratza but then my neighbor borrowed it (and appears to have put wet coffee beans through it??? there was a hard cake of bean mud on the inside when she returned it and it didn't work anymore) and now it grinds so badly that there's dust and big 2mm^2 chunks of beans in the same grind.

Yeah she broke your grinder.

E: it's probably the burr carrier which is a quick and easy fix, or it's the lower adjuster which is much more of a son of a gun to swap

tried the 4:1 cold brew (12.5 hours)

yields a disappointing amount of concentrate after much of the water is absorbed by grounds. mixed 5:2 with water though and it's very full-flavoured and powerful. tastiest batch yet.

i wonder if 6:1 for brewing and 2:1 serving would taste just as good while theoretically yielding more coffee

Worth a go, certainly. I think the main secret is really the long extraction.

Still impressed by the Moka Pot.
Experimenting with pre heating the water. Pouring only 80% of the brew. Etc Etc.

just ordered a hand grinder and a v60 pourover thing. i loved getting a mug of drip yirgacheffe in grad school, hoping i can get some of that magic back.

eventually i want to roast my own coffee since i won't be drinking enough to make buying roasted beans economically feasible. just like a single cup on the weekends would be good, but that would be 1 or 2 oz a week. gotta find a good setup for micro batch roasting.
