Just about every conundrum that's come up over the past ... what, six years (lol), triggers the question in my mind of "is X person LYING or DELUSIONAL"? Like, it's got to be one or the other. Either they understand that they're wrong and they're trying to fool everyone else, or they don't even realize they're wrong in the first place. And every single time it comes up it's all but impossible to discern. Whether it's Trump, or some Senator, or some Fox talking head, or some chud on the street, it's like they're all doing some super method performance where they have to maintain perfect kayfabe that keeps an outside observer in the dark as to whether they're a true believer or just a grifter. It drives me batty every single day and that may be the single biggest source of stress for me about ~all this~, like, what does this mean about all the human beings around me and in positions of power? Is that huge a percentage of people evil, or is that huge a percentage of people stupid? Cuz I have to react differently to the world depending on which it is
