I don't know why who/whom bugs me so much it's literally just a reflexive prescriptivist urge I have in this one context. Maybe it's because I went to the trouble of internalizing it to a natural language level when I was very young and now I'm annoyed that I didn't have to do that

Jorp makes the world a worse place through merely existing, but there's so much about him to make fun of it almost makes up for it. If it all turned out to be an Andy Kaufman-like act I'd applaud his willingness to stick to such an awful, hilarious bit for so long.

So far, I've usually gone with "The guy whose #1 piece of advice is to be clear, but is always having to explain what he means?" or some version of your 2 or 3, but that really only addresses the issue with the individual student. If I can mention a meme about him, and then give clear instructions to the rest of the class that they are NOT to go searching for these memes right now, because we have better things to be doing, that basically guarantees that a few people who never heard of him before will learn that he's a whiny piss baby and the correct procedure is just to laugh at everything he says.

I thought it was gonna be funny but no it went in a pretty dumb and boring direction. Are Hugo awards easy to win or is it completely sold on its gimmick?

And also aren't expecting it to be a joke, which most 'screenshot of text chain' tweets tend to be.

imo even as someone in that narrow band this 'should' work for this was pretty boring and poorly written (it falls way too hard into the classic question of 'why would this person ever humor this and not just go 'gently caress you' and block the number three texts in?' that you normally only see in bad horror, for me) but I will admit 'you know therapy is easier than proving the multiverse theory, right?' got a chuckle from me though they instantly ruined it with 'it sure didn't feel that way to me' as the response.

CharlestheHammer posted:Are Hugo awards easy to win or is it completely sold on its gimmick? It depends. Anybody that buys a ticket to the World Science Fiction Convention can make a nomination then the top 5 in each category go through ranked choice voting. Cis white male chud writers started getting pissed off at all the women and poc that were winning, often with less traditional sci-fi stories, so they arranged a bloc vote. People can also rank No Award. 5 of the categories with only books on the chud bloc ballot were outvoted by No Award and nobody received recognition. This is a long way to explain to explain that the twitter story might have been nominated to rub it in the chuds faces that they're a minority and they lost their version of "gamergate." Or maybe people like the story and the concept of a text message story. So you know Chuck Tingle, right? The chuds decided that if they couldn’t steal awards from minority authors, they’d delegitimize them. So the nominated Chuck Tingle for an award. That was a bad idea because Tingle absolutely loves trolling and it backfired on the chuds. The events surrounding the situation are what shiftes him from weird porn to weird topical porn.
