Having a lot of luck in Brawl with a Verazol, the Split Current, +1 counters, and kickers deck. Verazol scales infinitely and he is as big as the amount of mana you spend, so the cost of putting him in the command zone is meaningless. You essentially get free card draw and many decks can't handle Verazol coming back at 8/8. Occasionally you get to copy a kicked inscription, Skyclave Relic, or Vastwood Surge as well.

The combo itself is fine I think, its just what you do with it that is broken. Like what are other targets besides Agent?
You could grab the blue gearhulk, which can cast a Magma Opus from the GY, but that requires more setup. also very little synergy with mirror-breaker.
You can grab Locust God and Sage of the Falls, but for that to work, you pretty much have to run 1 copy of each and not draw them because its 2 different creatures. Also you have to cast it for x=2 most of the time.
You can grab Ulamog, but he doesn't do anything on ETB and you have to wait a turn to attack. Also legendary, so you can't grab multiples, or copy it with mirror-breaker. also much harder to hard cast.

Agent is just so much better than every other big creature in the format its insane.

I believe Locust God + Sage of the Falls is the traditional Pioneer combo though and it ends the game on the spot. Sometimes when you can pop off with Creativity there's nothing game winning to steal and then you just get bolted to the face and die anyway.

You'd be surprised how good stealing lands can be with agent on a dry board.

I've been playing Creativity too! Lots of games where I steal a land and I proceed to draw duds and lose.

I tried locust god and sage, but 5/5 games I ended up drawing half the combo and losing because of it. I don't think that combo is reliable enough with Creativity.

Literally never drew one of the 8 cards that put them back on the bottom of the deck though.

I don't think that deck can work unless you can pull the combo pieces from your sideboard, since that's the only way to avoid drawing them.

Man I had to basically abandon this draft format less than a week in because I just cant stop eating poo poo. I just feel totally outclassed in most games. I have never felt this helpless when playing limited

TBH the format seems pretty crappy so no big loss but yeah I just have no idea how to reliably win

From an aesthetic perspective they are ugly and bad but they are not that difficult to play with in practice.

I dunno, I'm kinda lining up with Jim Davis, alchemy is trash for constructed but in limited it seems fine

I wouldn't generally recommend drafting dragon tribal in this format. But if you do, Breath Weapon is pretty good in this format. Luckily I drafted 3 of them! This way even YOU can beat most aggressive white starts!*

In the phantom draft I found Specialise very stressful to play against on the phone, at least; rapidly scrolling through all these options to work out which ones could show up, whether the P/T of the Specialising creature was variable, all the permutations as a timer ticked down or my opponent kept doing things I couldn’t see. And the draft bit only wasn’t like that because it was against bots, and wasn’t timed.

Obviously people’s mileage vary around these things. For me they kind of remove the fun of playing Limited entirely, and replace it with something overwhelming and anxiety-inducing. Apparently it’s fun once you push through that barrier? But I think for me it’s probably more fun not to bother, and to go and do something else instead

How do the emojis work if you disable them in the options? I use the raccoon waving emoji a lot when I know the opponent is about to land a killing blow, but they respond with "Hello". I think the emote I'm using is being mapped to one of the text emotes.

Went 2-2 in the qualifier play-in, felt poo poo because the main reason was just going second in 3/4 games. Literally every game was aggro vs aggro where going second felt like a death sentence for me/my opponent, although my opponent in game 2 stumbled enough for me to win despite that, they didn't seem very experienced. I'm confident it would have been 1-2 against plat+ level players. Oh well!

Honestly, I find the weird passive aggressive game played through MTG:A emotes way more fun than the actual cards we're playing. All I want to do is provide the most milquetoast "I'm having a good time" commentary possible, but I find myself in a battle of wits where I have to convince the other player that I'm not an insufferable sourpuss.

i wouldn't run 16 lands unless you have a good amount of draw and/or your curve barely gets past 4 and even that's a stretch

remember, the 'hand smoothing' is just that there's two simulated opening hands out of your deck and it presents you with the one that has the "better" lands to spells ratio based on your deck's overall ratio. you're not guaranteed to have enough lands and it doesn't do anything additional after you mulligan or regarding your actual draws in the game, and if you're light on lands it might say 'hey, this 2 lander is better than a 4 lander' and you can just brick on a third land forever

Thanks, that makes sense.

1. W vs BR aggro. They spammed Genasi Rabble-Rousers, I almost lost because I forgot how their pump works, but I blew them out with You Hear Something on Watch
2. L vs RG aggro. I kept a mismatched hand of plains and black spells so of course for 5 turns i draw nothing but plains and black spells lol

3. L vs BW. Enemy played the indestructible spell into patriar's humiliation, which I only learned about from limited level ups lol. Thought I had the win when I got them down to 4 but I ran out of gas, they hit me with multiple removal spells, and I went hellbent. Flooded out hard. Steadfast unicorn pumping twice for 11 vigilance damage a turn lol

4. L vs UR, which LLU says in this format is literally the worst color pair in MTGA history. So of course they have snowborn simulacra lol. Flooded out hard. Managed to stay alive longer than I expected because of lifelinking but they used goggles of night and Alora for card advantage while I drew nothing but lands lol

I never saw La'zael except when she got binned by Sarevok's specialize lol

1-3, after 5 events I am 12-12 (50%). If I don't count the fake games from the phantom event it's actually a 42% win rate. So uh I guess I do this again next week

g1 honestly you should have lost this if they attack with all 4 genasi instead of just 3

g2 you absolutely can not keep that hand

g3 you didn't kill the prowler on turn 2 when they're tapped out, and then try killing it on turn 5 and get honked big time by deadly dispute

g4 you can't keep this hand either

Just say what you mean and don’t worry about the possibility of your opponent whipping themselves into a frenzy by convincing themselves that “good game” actually means “gently caress you.” If they do that, that’s on them.
