The old ps2 duology Digital Devil Saga opens with an eternal war attempting to reach Nirvana, with lines like “Rend... Slaughter... Devour your enemies! There is no other way to survive.” And a cast defining their own humanity through violence and demonic transformations influenced by Hindu mythology that wouldn’t look astray in KSBD backdrops, and the story has heavy Hinduism/Buddhism influences about seeking enlightenment (through violence and love).

The 2012 revival of Prophet, published by Image comics, has a lot of Attack And Dethrone God energy, though it's mostly about a cataclysmic war fought with armies of weird clone soliders. It's a great comic but the author is a creep and a sex pest because we're not allowed to have nice things, so idk, pirate it or buy it second hand I guess

But luckily it's on every "free" comics site. Thanks again for all the suggestions, even though I have seen most of them. Yes, I have been chasing this vibe for a while I have Cruelty Squad on my list, I will get to it one day. Another game I've been keeping my eye on is Dread Delusion. Looks like King's Field, but even weirder. I also probably should check back with Alita, because I stopped mid way through Last Order last time. As far as samurai mangas go, I have probably read all the good ones. Vinland Saga also counts here I think, also very good and has the "sword good -> sword maybe not good" arc. coolusername posted:Digital Devil Saga I played the SNES SMT's, a few Personas and I think the NDS one. Yeah, the vibes are really good. Half the time the game opens with the world ending and about 100% of the time ends with killing God, love it. But I'm maybe getting too tired of this type of grindy gameplay.

Ok thread, I got another one for ya. This is an EA game, supposed to come out sometime next year, but something to keep an eye on. I played a little bit and like what I saw, but I'm waiting for full release so I don't spoil it. Death Trash is not very mythopoetic I would say, but has a very cool K6BD-adjacent aesthetic. It's a post- or maybe even post-post-apocalyptic world tht is weird, alien and dangerous and strange meat grows out of the ground and colossal flesh titans roam the lands. You probably kill a god or something close to a god at some point, it seems like that kind of game. Mechanically it's an isometric action RPG. Kinda reminds me of Fallout a lot, but you know, realtime.

I was recently turned on to the Cradle series by Will Wight which might meet the requirements. It's very Wuxia/Anime/Cultivation inspired and has a start from nothing to overthrow God/the system story. Either way it's real good.
