I think it was jobs or someone else who was actually good at product management who talked about the key to good products is learning when to say no or leave things out

microsoft has never had good product managers, just people who get promoted for shipping new features

I wish it would let me spam confetti all over the chat window when I do a 🥳 emoji or whatever. That would at least be entertaining.

the endgame is obviously to make gamepass important enough to muscle a ridiculous revenue share out of sony, nintendo, apple and google where they get all the money but none of the responsibility of managing the platforms but they're all "look, calloduty!" while jangling their keys and hoping it works [it still might]

haven't they already done this? also lol just noticed you can no longer do the $1 subscription trick

There's some bug in Word where if you auto-complete certain words, your page turns blank. It will still take your input but you can't see what you're working on.

Yesterday I ran into a bug where either my cursor was out of alignment OR the window decorations had their hitboxes out of alignment. I had to hover my cursor to the bottom right of where things were displayed to close or drag (etc) windows

oh had another bug where powerpoint's window was invisible, as in the program would start, but not display on my desktop. If I went to the workspace view, I could see it on the thumbnail, but the window was invisible and couldn't be moved around, maximised etc in the normal desktop view.

however! it does give me a lot of excuses to go "oooh hmm, not working, better go grab a coffee" so I have to give MS some credit here.

Had this happen twice already on different occasions so I suspect that's just how it works now

quote:

I don't have a headset with me today so I'm listening to a Teams meeting from the laptop speaker. It's not possible to adjust the volume, like, at all, not even mute. The slider moves, the mute LED lights up, makes no difference.

So it's blaring loud enough to hear it from half of the floor, thankfully there's nobody else here today though.

that also reads a lot like when someone who doesn't program declares that source control is unnecessary complexity, e.g. a feature like "track changes" is pretty much indispensable if you're preparing something important

Hardly anyone ever dares turn that on where I work because documents end up getting sent out without stripping the change tracking history so that the recipient can read all the comments, recover deleted text and so on.

You would think that microsoft would be able to have a way to have a warning in outlook when you're sending a file with tracked changes and comments

it is weirdly convenient that everything we do is public information, turns out it is easier to never commit anything secret or bad to writing than it is to consistently strip it. in this particular context anyway.

I discovered today that when you copy an image in Teams, instead of an actual image in your clibpboard, you get 3-8MB of base64 text in an <img data="[...]"> tag

so far I haven't discovered anything that can actually parse this on the receiving end

paint and paint.net don't recognize it as an image

word and wordpad just get the html text

onenote crashes as soon as you paste

anyone else remember when internal consistency was the one good thing the windows ecosystem had going for it? goddamn
