The switch has local wifi that usually performs better than using the internet - but, not quite the same as a LAN party

Do kids in highschool these days still bring game consoles to each others' houses on weekend nights? My (now 20-year-old) brother just plays a lot online with his friends.

It was like a ritual for me in 02-04. I had the basement with the big couches and TV, my buddy Ty had the XBOX and the PS2. We'd meet at my place and crush the entire campaign of MGS2 or Splinter Cell 2 in an evening (I mean we'd be up until like 7AM).

The other weekend ritual I fondly remember, even if two of my best buddies did turn out to be shitheads, was the Joint/Pizza/Movies run. Tristan would roll a big cannon, and we'd quietly slip out the back door (no shot my Mom didn't know what we were doing), go across the street to the ravine where we'd stand just a little below street level and pass around the joint. Then we'd go up the street to Panzerotto Pizza, place an order for a pie, and then next door to Blockbuster where we'd rent a new release comedy and one or two other stupid flicks. Then back to the basement. Those were such simple times.

My son marches his Xbox one and a small lcd to his buddies house for all night game athons. Even if not LAN, they enjoy playing like it is

I used to strap my entire Compaq Presario to my back, balance my tiny 14 inch monitor on the handlebars and then ride my bike to my buddy’s house, keyboard safely stowed in the leg pocket on my sweet cargo jeans.

Wha-?! HOW? You must be HUGE. I have a 20 inch Trinitron and the thing is a beast. I can’t imagine a duffel bag that could hold it let alone carrying it for several miles.

While all of my classmates were getting iPods, I had one of these:

An iRiver H320. I think I had the breakout remote as well. Sometimes I wish I'd never gotten rid of it, because it was rock-solid and I'm pretty sure some people have replaced the HDD with a big SSD. The only thing it's missing is Bluetooth. I could definitely stand to get some sort of portable MP3 player; Spotify on my phone is all right but I'd like some way to carry around my own music like the old days, such that I can listen to the newest tunes I've added to my DJ library. Bonus if it's FAT formatted and my CDJs will read media off of it.

I got a Sony Walkman and it's just a little android device with an SD card slot that plays FLAC files and stuff and I love it. I don't have to keep anything on my phone or use up its battery, it sounds good overall and has physical button controls on the side. Best of all, it has a loving headphone jack.

I think people really underestimate the appeal of having a dedicated device for music because not having to hear a single advertisement, ever, is a blessing

I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

The only game I can clearly recognize is Spyro: A New Beginning which came out in late 2006? Which still seems kinda late to have that much shelf space for GameCube stuff, which also makes me think that this photo may be from just after Spyro came out but before the Wii blew the dick off of 2006's Christmas retail season

We still have them in Canada!

And now toy stores are just depressing because there's no stock of anything and the employees don't give a poo poo so they never clean up after the kids

This article made me feel REAL Old, which i think is the intention because its the Beaverton, but all those albums are bangers and good intros to Canadian indie rock/pop of the late 2000s

Jesus christ that Metric album is from 2009??? I feel like they only released like, poo poo 4 albums since then? Oh god i'm closer to 50 than 40 now.
EDIT: at least that album still rocks

It's not that there isn't good new stuff (just bought a bunch through Bandcamp Friday) but all my favorite bands from growing up are still putting out new stuff and sometimes it feels like I'm more interested in going back and listening to acts I missed the first time around.

I just cancelled my DirecTV service last month after having been a customer since 1999. They dropped our two favorite local channels with no end in sight and football season is coming up. We had three of those remotes for two TVs. I'm still not used to the Xfinity remotes after nearly a month.

I remember seeing the New Pornographers and Aesop Rock and I think Boris at Pitchfork festival in Chicago in like, 2006? I had really long hair and I rolled my own cigarettes. My pants were so baggy.

Unrelated question, how many of y’all have kids now? My son was born in March, and this thread is yet another reminder that my SA account is almost 20 years old and time comes for us all.
