He's probably AAAA, but when he gets on a roll can just kill the ball. For a round guy he can actually field his position competently. I liked him and wouldn't have minded him staying on the WSox, I imagine you look at him and go, "Meh, they could do worse..."

imo as a Yankee fan this community has been fine. It could definitely be more toxic but everyone here is mostly cordial.

As far as the team goes, it’s really frustrating to see the lack of urgency when it comes to filling in the holes on the roster. I think the rocketball definitely fooled this front office into thinking some guys were better than they actually ended up being and I also think Cashman and his team got too cute and focused more on dumpster diving than making obvious upgrades. All of that goes back to the owner though. Hal has made it clear in his tenure as control person that he’s going to spend right to the limit and try really hard to not spend over. They’ve spent the money poorly and what’s left is a roster of old, often injured guys. It really will take Hal firing Cashman and going outside the organization to really see a change in operations but even then I feel like they’ll hire the first guy who says they can win 90 games with a 150M payroll.

I never thought I would become a “If George was still alive” type of person but at least it was obvious George cared about winning, even if the moves he forced were wrong. This attitude is the worst for any kind of fan; I don’t care if the Yanks saved money on the luxury tax, I want to see them try and win.

They did, yeah. This is it for trades for anyone that has ever been on a major league roster this season, iirc. Minor league trades can still happen, but need to be on the roster by Sept 1 to be eligible for the postseason...or something like that.

This "we dried" deadline stands out in comparison to past years under Friedman. Lets take a stroll down memory lane and see what the Dodgers record was on August 1st and who they added at the deadline:

2016 - 59-46 - Dick Mountain (back when he was elite)
2017 - 74-31 - Yu Darvish
2018 - 59-49 - Manny Machado
2019 - 71-39 - no top tier additions, Gyorko & Kolarek (SHOULD HAVE LET HIM FACE SOTO, DAVE!)
2020 - was there even a deadline?
2021 - 63-43 - Max Scherzer & Trea Turner
2022 - 68-33 - no top tier additions Joey Gallo and Chris Martin I guess?

so the times under AF where the Dodgers did not make an impact move at the deadline, their record was significantly stronger than what they've got right now

this is technically true but you can get around it if it's to replace someone going to the IL so it's not much of a limitation in reality

This era of Yankee baseball is characterized by a deadly combination of utter incompetence and complete self assured arrogance that they are smarter than everyone else despite the team eating poo poo over and over again. Them going out and getting two garbage rental throw dart RP's and actually giving up a prospect for of them is just too perfect.

Something witty yet inspirational about the Cleveland Indians
God dammit Cleveland. You basically just salary dumped your only real free agent signing in 6 years for a suspect and a path to getting your other acquisition playing time.

You still needed at least 2 starting pitchers now that Thor got predictably injured in his first start and you now somehow have EVEN LESS power in a lineup that’s already produced the least home runs BY FAR in all of baseball. We also now have 4 kids (3 of which are demolishing their innings limits and the other of which has been in the bullpen all year) in the rotation and no other answers to help.

It was the most Cleveland deadline of all. Dump salary with the ever present “eye on next year” 🙄

Yeah. I don't think the Ms did enough to reasonably compete against the Rangers, Astros, and Angels all adding, but if there's no value out there for Gilbert, Teo, Murphy, or France, it was fine to hang on to them in my opinion. Even if we'll lose Teo and Murphy "for nothing", if the trade isn't there, it isn't there.
