Yes! But it's not in TG, it's in PitR, here: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3955070

I was thinking about making a thread for game design. You could discuss your homebrew systems and talk about game principles in a system-agnostic or intersystem context.

TG Design/Production/Publishing: Shameless self-promotion is good, actually - last touched in December
Board Game Design Laboratory: Igor, get the meeples more recently posted in, this March

Both threads have become quite slow, but they're still alive if you want them. A combined thread might not be a terrible idea if there's not enough steam to keep both going. Or maybe a reboot!

Is there an FLGS thread? Like, people talking about their FLGS's, promoting FLGS's that they think people should check out, asking about FLGS's in places that people will be visiting for work/vacation and want to check out?

(Alternatively where would something like this go?)

Leperflesh

There isn't. I'm not sure if people might be coy about exactly where they live, but maybe not? I like to talk about my local game store, since it's a good one run by a guy who keeps a good blog about running game stores.

I think starting a thread and seeing how it goes is a fine idea.

Yess. Go for it, I like that.

Also I think the art thread yet lives, but I think trapstar already posts over there so I'm just saying so for others who might not know. Maybe the Hot Modrons title isn't super informative! But it also says [TG Art Thread] so hopefully that helps.

Seeing as that the "Pitch A Character Based On This Artwork" thread didn't really take off, I was wondering what your guy's opinion on making a thread more along the lines of "Make Assumptions About This Character Based On This Art" rather than doing a whole story thing. But IDK maybe it's just not a concept that would really take off and I should just leave the idea at rest, just thought it might go better if it was simplified.

Do any of you guys think it would be cool to have a "worldbuilding/setting" general for goons to discuss their homebrew setting and lore at length with other goons? Might be cool creatively themed discussion. I wouldn't feel confident enough OPing it, but it's an idea.

I actually had a cool idea for this come to my mind. What if instead it’s a “What kind of NPC would you use this character for in your current game/session” or for players “How do you think your player character would interact with this character based what you assume about the character in the art/write an interaction for your character based what you assume about the character in the art”
It would also be a good way for players to introduce their characters and GM’s to showcase what’s going on i their campaigns by writing a little or explanatory but about their PC or current campaign before the actual little excerpt is written down.

Is there a general miniatures chat/questions thread I'm not seeing? Specifically, looking for info about valuation/where to sell as I'm trying to get rid of a bunch of (painted) GW LotR stuff and a box of unpainted Reaper minis that have apparently been hiding in the back of a closet since the initial 2012 Kickstarter fulfilled.

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Minis are generally split into interest areas. There's a general minis painting thread, and then there's threads for various minis games.

The reaper threads come and go - the most recent hasn't seen a post in over a year - but the GW LotR stuff would attract attention in the GW specialist games thread.

I think you could just ask in the TG chat thread, too. And do consider selling in SA-Mart - you're welcome to post a link to your for sale thread from relevant threads in TG, as long as you don't spam, and you check back into those threads to respond to anyone who asks you questions or something, e.g, don't hit-and-run.

Thanks Leperflesh! I have no issue selling on SA-Mart, but I need to figure out a fair price before I do so.

I remember loving the Magic Card Design Challenge threads, i've poked around and haven't found a latest iteration. Does anyone know if there's a current version or if its something that died? (and that maybe I should revive?)

Talk about threads that need an imgur backup.

There's no current magic card design thread. You could post about something like that in the general Magic thread, with a spinoff thread/contest thread/whatever if there's interest: or just be proactive and create one, and then maybe announce it in the various Magic threads.

I’ll put my 2 cents in: I would read that thread but won’t sift through the general MtG thread to find it should it not exist as a standalone.

I'm running a weekly Dungeons and Dragons club at the middle school where I work, and I was thinking about making a thread for blogging about how it goes so people and be lookey-loos about 11-13 year olds rolling dice and playing pretend. At first I thought that might be something for The Game Room, but having actually looked in there for the first time it doesn't seem appropriate. Would there be interest in a thread like that?

You should post it in the starting a gaming club thread.

There aren't any active threads for Rowan, Rook, and Decard games (DIE, Spire, Heart, Hunny Hiest) are there? I know we had a Spire/Heart thread that eventually died back in the day.
Would folks be more interested in a general thread for this group's games or would a thread about their new KS game Eat The Reich be better?
I'm leaning towards a general thread since they tend to reuse engines and it doesn't seem like we could get much more than a hype post or two for a game that's still in its backer campaign.

I haven't seen an active thread for them, no. You should feel free to create one! I think a general thread is more likely to have legs.

is there a thread for indie/self published RPGs? want to gush about 9 Lives to Valhalla and not sure where to do that.

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Hmm.

We have had threads where TG goons have posted about their own projects. That doesn't sound like what you want.
We've had threads centered on specific publishers or genres: for example, we have an old-school OSR thread that covers some indie-published OSR type games, and we have a thread for all games published by Liberi Gothica Games.
There's a thread for Blades in the Dark and all its hacks, which are numerous and indie.
We've also had threads on specific indie games that seem to be well known here in TG, such as Lancer.

So I guess a catch-all Indie thread isn't a thing, at least not recently, but you can make a new thread about 9 Lives if you like, or maybe Gem Room Games if you want to talk about their other two games as well? Or mayyybe even a "animal fantasy genre" thread if you want to talk about 9 Lives in the same place as Mouseguard for example?

well the last thread I made in tg was for the 13th Age playtest and got me in trouble with Pelgrane lol

but sure I can put together an op for a light, chatty thread for light, chatty indie games. Lasers and Feelings, Death School, Aether Operations, that kind of thing.

I shared Way Too Much about playtest materials because they were learning and didn't really have a functional NDA.

but we ended up in a mutually very good spot where SA was doing lots of free promotion, waderocket was working directly with the community here, and several folks got real dollars for what we did with the system
