my brother briefly worked as a CO because it was one of the only jobs in town that provided benefits and an above minimum wage, and he briefly transformed into the worst person i've ever met. since leaving he's done a lot of work on himself in regards to examining the attitudes he held at the time, and he's become remarkably chill and progressive, but i think it's impossible to occupy a police or police adjacent position and not hold fascist ideals and still go to work and do a fascist job.

My dad was a career cop and police chief of a small town, and was the biggest bully I have ever know. Then after my parents split and he went and started another family, we started getting these stories here and there from people about how badly he abused his power around town and everyone just kept quiet about it. I'll never understand why someone, anyone didn't speak up and save everyone a decade or more of pain.

The story from like a week ago of a small-town newspaper getting word that their local police chief was an abuser and then immediately getting raided by that police chief, in the process killing the elderly owner of the newspaper, so that the police chief could find out who was the whistleblower, immediately comes to mind.

Love it when liberals talk about checks and balances. It's just such a perfect phrase to pretend the whole civic structure was very carefully and considerately designed, as opposed to being an outgrowth of a brutal slaver society that is still so loving mad they can't personally own slaves anymore.

idk i had a graduate advisor let me go (7 months notice) before i reported his power abuse.. kicked off a scary chunk of time where i had to continue like interacting professionally with this guy while he's trying to fight me, trick me on the DL. and that was just a whiny graduate advisor, idk what id have done if id been up against like real muscle or whatever, target of a bully cop, a perv boss, etc. i don't get how whistleblowers do it, that poo poo lasts forever and is never not scary.
