I love this photo for the level of banality coupled to the astounding stupidity. Putting that much that close is extremely dumb at the best of times, but propping them up like that for show is just *exquisite* in its stupidity.

the little nubs on the slugs sitting upright are expressly there to stop them from rolling on a flat surface because you really don't want them rolling close to each other, By propping them on a ledge like that they're completely bypassing the nubs ability to prevent this.

ngl the only thing that'd make that pic worse is teethmarks on the cap.

It's a textbook example of desensitisation to training. Everyone allowed in that building absolutely had to know all of the procedures and why they exist but nuclear interactions are unintuitive enough that it's really hard to make training stick (the whole report goes into how even the supervisor broke protocol when informed of the snafu and had the aliquots manually separated).

It's also hard to learn from mistakes at the level of the individual because in the rare cases that you're lucky enough to survive you probably won't be working on the same process again any time soon.

Yeah its forcefully ventilating the room and stops the fire by lowering the temperature in the room.

I got stuck in a hailstorm after some hot springing in Jemez driving the long scenic route around the back to Albuquerque and almost drove right into one of the LANL gates a couple years ago. Thankfully I noticed what I was doing before I hit the point of no return and had to get flagged in.

I don't think they would have been stoked about how the car smelled.

How much does a class 100 / ISO 5 clean room suck in terms of dress? I'm seeing suit/booties/hood/googles, which I've had to wear before at customer sites. Temperature controlled. I'm wondering if there's anything that I'm not thinking of before applying to a place.

it also has four nozzles spraying into the room pointed at the ceiling to lower the temperature. the idea is to get the effect of dudes spraying hoses in through thr window plus a directional airflow from the fog nozzle helping to clear the smoke out faster than it would left to its own devices, plus it can be set up by one dude and leave a much safer (in relative terms of "how on fire a building are we kicking our way into?") situation for the others who are getting ready to kick the door in

Put on new scrubs, put on a second bouffant and beard cover if necessary, enter the first gowning room. Sit on the bench, put on clean tyvek booties while crossing over the magic line. Go to the first gowning station, grab gloves in your size, a hood/mask, and goggles. Ensure all the gamma oven markers on all your gear are good to go. Spray everything down with IPA, including the table, then aseptically don gloves, hood and goggles in that order. Do not touch the back strap of the goggles or your mask, they get plated for micro recovery.

Cross over to the second gowning room and grab a tyvek bunny and boot covers in your preferred size, and spray everything with IPA. Never stop spraying your hands with IPA, never stop spraying everything with IPA and peroxide. Rip the tear strip on the bunnysuit package, then artfully reach into the suit, turn it halfway inside-out, and then step into it without touching the outside (micro), then zip it up while making sure the hood is tucked.

Sit on the bench, rip open the boot covers and put them on and tie them ON THE BENCH before crossing the magic line and dropping them on the floor. Don't touch anything touching the floor.
One last station before you hit the button and enter the aseptic core, grab some cuff tape and another pair of gloves. Soak them in IPA, aseptically roll them on to bond your first gloves and bunnysuit together, then don your second gloves.

Now hit the button and walk in with your arms at a 90⁰ angle and fingertips facing the ceiling. Spray your hands with peroxide and IPA constantly and change your gloves every time you touch something.

I was a gowning instructor when I was a lead.

Plating sites were your forehead, back strap of goggles, mask, all 5 fingertips of both hands, one forearm, one elbow and one thigh.

My best buddy was consistently getting TNTC (too numerous to count) ACTIONS and getting banned from the core, it's not a job for sweaty motherfuckers.

Don't touch anything touching the floor in an active class 1 can't be stressed enough. A camera will see it, it will get caught by someone, and it is a one-way ticket to being escorted off the premises. The company I worked for was a CMO, so internal quality, customer quality, and maybe some reg agencies of the countries where the product is going to be sold are going to do QA video review. Someone will see it.

I did desktop support for a fiber optic company, and I always enjoyed working on the systems that came from the clean rooms. Always so clean compared to the usual nasty poo poo you find in PCs.

I didn't mind dressing up for the clean rooms either. Just booties, lab coats, hair nets, and gloves. Thankfully no bunny suits or bathing in IPA like MrQwerty had to deal with.

Get plated and give up your rotation, considering they were working us on "120% staffed" skeleton crews down ~10-15 people per shift between when I got hired and when I left.

We were making wild poo poo though, outbidding competitors on poo poo that nobody wanted to touch because "good pay" in NM is well below average.

Botox, busulfan, paclitaxel, dexrasoxane, doxorubicin, proprietary amphotericin b for gilead, daptomycin as cubicin for Cubist then Merck (Merck tried to add 60kg of sugar to the cubicin compound and repatent it right after acquiring Cubist, that poo poo was godawful, just cleaning antibiotic candy for hours, and a federal judge smacked them down and killed that dead), 99mTc, prialt (ziconotide, synthetic cone snail toxin), cetuximab, some other MABs, lots of one-shot DON'T gently caress IT UP OR THE CUSTOMER GOES BANKRUPT stability studies on novel chemo and antiviral drugs.

They had twin two-story 14 shelf Serail lyophilizers, those were the moneymakers.
Lol someone left a lyo tool on the bottom shelf of one and then closed the door and the lyo guys started the sterilization cycle. It bent 3 shelves and it went down for 2 months.

Oh yeah they have a CS manufacture license too, I filled ephedrine and buprenorphine under the ever vigilant eye of the Drug Enforcement Administration. I've worked with them, the FDA, the EMA, the UK FDA, the Chinese FDA, and the Turkish FDA. Plant has to be validated by the agencies of the regions you're selling drugs in.

Gotta be that way, it's injectable drugs. A lot if them were chemo. Don't wanna be sending out bad product to kill cancer patients, and to ensure that a lot of eyes go on a lot of cameras and SCADA.

Batch review sucked poo poo, especially when people insisted on writing cGDP notes in cursive (not supposed to do that) and then spilled IPA all over the goddamn one-print-only cleanroom paperwork. I'd be trying to decipher handwriting on something that was 6 years old and show it to my supe that had been there for 23 years and he'd start laughing, tell a story and then, "oh yeah they're dead."
