At least in regard to spaceflight, however, that would be wrong. Musk's multiplanetary ambitions today are more credible because SpaceX has taken steps toward doing what he said the company would do.

SpaceX has real hardware today and has completed three test flights. A fourth is possible next month.

"It’s surreal, but it’s real," Musk said this weekend, describing the audacious Mars vision.

lmao nope sorry. they haven't "completed" any test flights

quote:

If thousands of launches seem impossible, Musk noted that SpaceX has now completed 327 successful Falcon launches and that 80 percent of those have involved used boosters. This year, he said, SpaceX will launch about 90 percent of the mass sent into orbit from the planet. China will launch about 6 percent, he added, with the remainder of the world accounting for the other 4 percent.

thousands of launches of starship seem impossible. how many of those 327 successful launches were starship?

oh that's right, according to *checks notes* you, none

so the FSD (Supervised) technology obviously requires a human in the driver's seat to prevent it from crashing, and obviously they can't make a robotaxi out of that in four months

if the car can only move with a human in the driver's seat though i guess you could make a tech bubble style scooter app, except with teslas instead of scooters

just find a discarded robotaxi tesla in the street, use the tesla robotaxi app to unlock it, drive it where you're going and abandon it in the street

at night low paid contractors* with rented tow trucks fan out over the city to find the remaining tesla robotaxis with four working wheels and drag them back to the depot** to charge

* musk superfan volunteers

** their home garages

wait what, seriously? you have to press the pedals and move the steering wheel etc. to make it go? does it even have the required sensors so they can ship a software update that enables it or something?

the august reveal is just gonna be a lovely publicity stunt, not a working robotaxi

hell, I think this is the first time he's even suggested that Tesla might make a separate vehicle design as a dedicated robotaxi

usually when he talks about robotaxis, he claims that every single Tesla car on the road will be a fully functional robotaxi once the right software update ships, and therefore you should buy buy buy now because the cars will be worth WAY more when they start bringing in passive income for every Tesla ownwr

any robotaxi he releases will presumably just be driven by team of drivers from india working remotely, or FSD without the nagging. Either way it will meet no certifications or standards for the road, but never the less will be available.

oh, I recognize this bit from the Alex Jones trials. it's even dumber than you think

he's trying to lay down a "no normal person would ever want to sue a great guy like me, Ben Brody was just tricked into doing it by this money-grubbing, ambulance-chasing evil lawyer who orchestrated all this solely to get his hands on my wealth" narrative
