the concept of idiots is rather like the concept that americans have of good and evil. "i am a good guy, therefore this gun that i carry will only be used for good." the world is not polarised like disney tells you. there is no good or evil, standing either side of a conceptual barrier, there's just a bunch of people trying to do whatever. the concept of "idiot" and "not idiot" carries the exact same mistaken idea of how the world works. there's no line that you stand either side of. for this reason, i am not on board with the idea that taking money from idiots is a good thing. this has been my friday night seriouspost. cheers

the problem with this whole thing is that either the reddit founders get a bunch of money or the reddit users do or possibly both of somehow this works but all of the parties involved are poo poo so no matter what someone who I don't like is making money off of this so I don't care about redditcoin unless it involves lawsuits

Heh [–]SPONSORED_SHILL 6 points 3 hours ago Read every single post by /u/ryancarnated. Well we haven't actually decided what reddit notes are another redditor: Then why would you announce them now? ryan again: Because we know what they're called, how many there are, approximately who will be getting them, and we now have a new subreddit where interested people can join and follow the project. oh boy: This won't be possible, as the supply will be limited to 950,000, not unlike how bitcoin is limited to 21 million. god drat it: Lemme put it another way ... if we use "currency", it will be bitcoin, not reddit notes. reddit notes serve a different purpose than currency. decentralize the universe: Decentralizing reddit is on our TODO list. If you're an engineer, please join us and make this happen! Looked at Ryan's blog a little bit. He dropped out of his physics PhD program to pursue Bitcoin opportunities in May of 2013, he posted about the death of his dad in January of 2013, he posted some stuff about libertarianism and non-aggression, and he posted a lot of scattered half-jokes. His most recent stuff has been all about Bitcoin. He also made a thread on bitcointalk to discuss reddit notes. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=899962.0 Dren fucked around with this message at 06:20 on Dec 20, 2014 |

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2ptac4/can_somebody_create_a_decentralized_uber_already/ Can somebody create a decentralized Uber already? The State and taxi mafia should not be able to stop voluntary peer-to-peer activity. [–]satoshis_ghost 23 points 8 hours ago* Yeah, let me know how you're going to have background checks in a decentralized manner. The whole appeal of Uber and Lyft is that the drivers are vetted by ratings and through background checks. Somebody got raped by an Uber driver in Boston. Imagine what would happen if anybody could drive an Uber car. I'm sure taxi drivers have done the same before, but no rational person is going to get in the car with a random person. Edit: Jesus Christ, people, learn to read. I said Uber and taxi drivers have raped people before, too. I just don't see how a decentralized app couldn't possibly make that a larger problem with today's technology. [–]actinblack 19 points 7 hours ago* A rating system like in the decentralized free markets would pretty much solve that problem. If you are a women, just choose drivers with excellent rating and a long history of successful drives. These guys here explain it in more detail in their white paper: http://quicksilvercoin.co/

hobbesmaster posted:not at all, its literally "well, we figured out we can't actually print real money. so uh, heres some monopoly money" exactly. there's no legal association between redditbux and reddit, it's just a thing reddit has decided to name and distribute. if idiots decide to spend money on the redditbux, that's their business, and the redditbux will have whatever value people are willing to trade them for. what they won't have is any legal title to or say in reddit operations

the crossover between bitlords and anarchists is amazing. they've both seen their theoretical systems implemented in practice multiple times and the complete and utter failure thereof has no bearing on their conviction that they will work

shrem's sentence is bringing them all out of the woodwork... trigger warning: libtards [–]sentdex 121 points 10 hours ago The punishment doesn't fit the crime at all. He laundered money out of greed to make money. You simply fine him a significant amount, and move on. Why are we taking away his freedom? Why does he need to be removed from society? Makes no sense at all. [–]rabidmonkey1 39 points 9 hours ago Money laundering = financial thought crime. [–]olliec420 22 points 9 hours ago I'm not quite clear how he laundered money, can you explain to me. How is selling bitcoins to someone who pays you fair market value for them "laundering money?" Unless there is something I'm missing. [–]felipelalli 23 points 9 hours ago The fact is that he did make no crime. No one single crime. The current laws are immoral. [–]dmp1ce 5 points 6 hours ago Locking up Charlie is a crime in my book. These financial "crimes" were foisted upon the general population. I don't agree with them at all and I don't think most people do. [–]metamirror 23 points 10 hours ago If you think this is wrong, buy bitcoin, use bitcoin, spread the word.
