This deserves a longer post, but the main reason is Franco, and the way fascist Spain's history from WW2 to its ultimate transition to democracy is just very different than what happened in most of the other western European powers, both internally and with respect to NATO, inter-European relations, anticommunism, and the US.

I'd be interested in reading that post.

One thing I don't see mentioned about Spain is that they are forming government and the "socialist" party and Podemos have had to negotiate an agreement with regional parties which includes amnesty for the organizers of the Catalan (8 minutes of) independence, 5 years ago. So supporting Palestine is an easy bone to throw to the bases (specially those of Podemos, the junior partner) in a time where swathes of the "socialist" constituency are restless because they disagree with the Catalan Amnesty.

In short, the only reason I see for the PM to take this bold stance is that it's conjuncturally *very* advantageous. In my view, the "socialist" party instinct would be to toe the empire's line.

Not really understanding what this video is showing. The sort of GPS device that would need to be planted on someone could not go unseen, and is likely to not work in a place like Gaza, and absolutely not at all once underground.

sorry for posting about sweden, but its funny

quote:

The authorities have warned that the disinformation campaigns against Sweden will continue for years.

Now it is the Prime Minister's misstatement that is misinterpreted and spread in social media by the same actors as in the LVU campaign.

In the background there is a foreign power that fuels the spread and the goal is to divide the West and perhaps even disrupt the NATO process.
John Granlund
Security reporter

On the recordings from a voter meeting, the prime minister is heard saying that "Israel has the right to people..." and then changes his mind and says "Israel has the right to defense".

Now incorrect captions from the incident are being spread where Kristersson allegedly says that "Israel has the right to genocide".
Millions of views

The clip has received millions of views worldwide and gives the image of an anti-Islam prime minister.

Swedish authorities have followed the distribution of the clips over the past week and according to several sources, it is believed that a foreign power is fueling the campaign.

The accounts that have been active so far are in several cases the same ones that ran the so-called LVU campaign, with the clearest example being the Egyptian account Shuoun Islamiya. At the time of writing, the pro-Russian news service RT has also hinted that Kristersson was about to say "genocide" and this has also been noticed by the Turkish media.

The authority for psychological defense has previously come out and warned that the LVU campaign may continue for a long time to come and that the various actors will look for new postings that can be exploited.
Want to paint Sweden black

The goal above all seems to be to paint Sweden black and point out Sweden as a country hostile to Islam.

The motive is to divide, weaken the cohesion of society and tear up strong emotions.

A further consequence of this concerns the NATO process, where the government now expects a ratification in the Turkish parliament at the beginning of December.

But the greater the spread of the false image of Sweden as an Islam-hating country - the more difficult it will be for Turkish parliamentarians to say yes to Sweden in the country's parliament.

they're trying to divide us by... using our own words and actions against us ;_;

Stories like this explain why Israel is clamping down on Haaretz:

quote:

Giora Eiland's Monstrous Gaza Proposal Is Evil in Plain Sight

by Gideon Levy

Giora Eiland is one of the “thinking officers” to have come out of the IDF. Pleasant and eloquent, his demeanor is all moderation and sound judgment. He had an impressive military career, was head of the military’s Operations and Planning Division and head of the National Security Council. He is constantly being interviewed and hailed by the Labor movement. He isn’t inarticulate and ignorant like Brig. Gen. Amir Avivi and isn’t bloodthirsty like Itamar Ben Gvir. Middle of the road, moderate right.

Eiland, not a well man, who has even written a book about his suffering, has an idea: Epidemics in Gaza are good for Israel. “After all, severe epidemics in the southern Strip will bring victory closer and reduce fatalities among IDF soldiers,” he wrote this week in Yedioth Ahronoth. One only has to wait for the daughters of Hamas’ leaders to contract the plague, and we’ve won.

Eiland didn’t detail which plagues he recommends – pestilence, boils or cholera, maybe a cocktail of smallpox and AIDS; perhaps also starvation for two million people. A promise of Israeli victory at rock bottom prices. “And no, it’s not cruelty for its own sake,” he stressed, as though anyone thought otherwise. In fact, it’s rare kindness and humaneness, which would only save human lives.

Eiland, in the role of Mother Theresa, an officer and a gentleman in the world’s most moral army, made a Nazi proposal and no storm broke out. Anyone who attributes genocide to Israel is anti-Semitic, after all. Just imagine a European general proposing to starve a nation, or to kill it with an epidemic – the Jews, for instance. Imagine spreading a plague because it would promote the war effort. All is fair in war, and now it’s ok to suggest anything and everything you’ve dreamed of and never dared to bring up. Political correctness has been turned upside down. Anyone can be Meir Kahane, nobody may be human. It’s ok to propose genocide, but wrong to pity the children of Gaza. It’s ok to propose ethnic cleansing, but it's wrong to be shocked by Gaza’s punishment.

It’s no longer only the right. It’s the mainstream. Yesh Atid's MK Ram Ben Barak supports voluntary transfer, the moderate minister Gila Gamliel is also in favor. The Foreign Ministry said she doesn’t represent the government. Yes, she does, and not only the government.

Monstrousness has become correct, diabolism has penetrated the center and even left of center. Another war or two, and everyone will be Kahane.

We haven’t yet recovered from Hamas’ brutality, and already we are being inundated with all this goodness — not only from the extreme right and the settlers, but from the heart of the Israeli center. Apparently, there is horrific cruelty and correct cruelty. Hamas are animals, but the proposal to spread disease is legitimate. One of the most dangerous occurrences to be born in this war is unfolding before our eyes: the standardization, legalization and normalization of evil.

This evil grew out of the ground of the unbelievable disregard and pathological indifference in Israel to what’s happening now in Gaza. Foreign journalists who come here can’t believe their eyes: Gaza’s suffering doesn’t exist. Israel hasn’t killed thousands of children and didn’t evict a million people from their homes. Gaza’s sacrifice is totally out of the picture, gone not only from public discourse but even from the daily news. On Israeli television, alone in the world, we didn’t kill children. According to the Israeli media, the IDF hasn’t committed in this war even one tiny little war crime.

A society that so disregards reality and is so indifferent to the suffering of the nation it declared war on raises moral mutations like Eiland. You can be sure he thinks his suggestion isn’t in any way tainted, all he did was make a reasonable suggestion that serves Israel’s interest. What other consideration is there, anyway, except Israel’s interest? International law is for the weak, morality for the philosophizers, humanism for the bleeding hearts. And really, what’s wrong with a plague in Gaza? Only one thing: it could infect Israel too. In fact, it already has.

A masked man spoke in the video published by the Cyber Flood Al-Aqsa group on its Telegram account about the group’s success in penetrating the Israeli Ministry of Defense, reviewing a number of information about the Israeli North Gaza Military Division.

In the video, the masked man began reviewing the names of the Israeli soldiers in the North Gaza Division, their military ranks, service numbers, and their places of residence.
The information mentioned by the masked man was not limited to Israeli soldiers. Rather, he mentioned that there were dual citizenship soldiers from several countries, including Canada, Belgium, and Ukraine. The resistance obtained their information and pictures, and the conclusion of the video was the phrase, “You are living on a land that is not yours, so leave it before we bury you in it.”
