Borderlands 3 is likely already DOA depending on how likely it is Randy Pitchford or anyone else at gearbox did the same poo poo they did with SEGA and embezzle money from one game's development to something else. Well that and if the CP claim is real.

Randy Pitchford going down in flames and/or into prison would actually drastically, immensely raise my interest in borderlands. I still wouldn't trust Gearbox to make a good game further than i could throw them, but even if he's replaced by a rancid bag of dog turds the studio would be on an upward trend.

Outer Worlds's success will have no bearing on their viability as a developer under Microsoft's control. The game was started before they were bought out and it won't mean poo poo if Microsoft doesn't give them proper time and resources to work on their next game. It's not like being owned by an energy vampire like EA, but it's still a form of control that can strangle developers.

Deadguy2322 posted:Alpha Protocol was late and over budget, leading SEGA to release it in the broken state Obsidian left it in at submission even though the release was delayed for other reasons. Alpha Protocol was loving awesome, and I highly recommend people play it. It's still the gold standard in terms of player choice and plot branching; play through it once and you'll think it's a decent spy action game. Play through it twice, and your mind will be blown. The gameplay was buggy as poo poo on release, and it's still not great after the patches, but goddamn it, the story interactivity is just insane. If you like branching paths and player choices actually mattering, you definitely need to play it. And definitely more than one playthrough. Sorry for the derail, I just love to talk up AP whenever I get the chance.

I got a free copy of Alpha Protocol on steam and when I tried to play it it ran at like 15fps even with the visuals as low as they could go. I googled it because it must be some kind of bug I could fix, but nada. Just runs like poo poo on my computer for no reason at all!

Yeah, it's buggy as poo poo and they only did like 2 patches or something before the whole thing was dropped. It's a goddamn shame because it's an incredible game that a shockingly small amount of people played because of bugginess. I really hope you try playing it again on different hardware, and it actually runs well enough for you to play it. It's definitely worth playing if you can manage it.

Deadguy2322 posted:Alpha Protocol was late and over budget, leading SEGA to release it in the broken state Obsidian left it in at submission even though the release was delayed for other reasons. Sega literally had them stop development of Alpha Protocol to produce an Alien RPG, which they got pretty far into production before Sega cancelled it in favor of letting Gearbox make Aliens: Colonial Marines. Obsidian effectively had to start from scratch though because several of the key writers and programmers who had worked on the initial build of Alpha Protocol no longer worked at the company, on top of it being extremely outdated. Afterwards, they were given a strict deadline with an insufficient budget and time from Sega to restart production of the game. It's a miracle it turned out as good as it did. Out of all the companies that tried to sink Obsidian, Sega came the closest of succeeding. Alpha Protocol is pretty shamefully bad and I smdh at goons who have been hyping it for 10 years now. Like there's completely overrated (ME 1, Skyrim) and then stuff like Alpha Protocol in its own dimension of just being not functional or worthwhile

Its an incredibly charismatic gently caress up that still has content in between the non-functionality and easily broken combat. Who wouldn't want some espionage WRPG that lets you play as different kinds of spies in a world full of intrigue.
