If you are pressing play on an ableton set list you can't really just throw songs in mid-way through and respond to your personal mood or the vibe of the room.

What the gently caress are you talking about? Just using Ableton or Traktor doesn't make you Steve Angello, it actually means you have the ability to be even more flexible in your track selection because you can have 20,000 songs cued up instantly instead of having to break your back lugging CDs or vinyls around

does anybody know where I can get some good moombahton that doesn't sound like dubstep?

What question are you even asking there? Here's an A-Mac edit of a Reset! remix that you might like

My favorite Reset! song is from the Mad Decent Vol. 1 compilation, the Bosco Delrey remix. I think it's peppy + refreshing compared to the majority of the uninteresting/uninspired crap people put out

They're doing a show tonight at the venue where I work, 285 Kent Ave in Brooklyn. Pretty excited since there's also a Girl Unit show next door at Glasslands with Dubbel Dutch, should be a good night!

I've been somewhat of a Rob Swire connoisseur throughout his whole career and let me tell you, those Aussies sure do know how to make the best dubstep bands!

At least that mix has the Torro Torro remix of Go Deep in it which is easily one of my favorite songs of 2012

e: and if we're talking essential mixes Rustie's is still the best of the year

I think that VIPs of remixes - especially this one - only work if you/the crowd knows the original one, especially in this case. I don't think that the VIP mix of their Jessie Ware remix is like that great of a track to begin with, and it seems like it would only work if everyone knew what was going on. There are times where VIPs are just as good as the original, but that doesn't always happen (ie. Footcrab VIP is cool and works well on its own)

Agreed on all counts, song still owns though :shobon:

Goodpart posted:

So I'm having trouble finding what I'm after. I defer to your collective knowledge to help me out, because as someone who doesn't usually listen to this sort of stuff, I'm completely lost when it comes to where to start looking.

I'm after some music that sounds like this:

Russ Chimes - Daytona
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMNibIQ4GD8

SymbolOne - Last Scene
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9gG5ccNiaE

Perturbator - Retrogenesis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0D1uCzzrLI

Now I'd post this in the recommendations thread, but a) I figured it would be better suited to the thread dedicated to such things, and b) I have a followup question.

In my searches, I've come across quite a few songs that I like, but very, very few of them are connected to albums. At best, you'll find them on compilation albums which can often be a bit spotty in quality (stuff like Valerie and Friends, which ranges from the fantastic to the forgettable), and at worst you find EPs which are usually just one song with a few remixes by other artists that usually don't hit the mark.

I've never come across a genre of music so scattered in terms of methods of distribution. Is the album dead, or something? How the gently caress does anyone get any decent exposure? :psyduck:

Search by label, not by album.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, or if the NYC thread is, but what are some small time clubs (more so dj venues) that play EDM and real house-y style dance music in NYC? Obviously not guido, fist pumping poo poo, but underground and burgeoning DJs spinning fun tracks to dance to. Preferably a place that lets people under 21 in, like 285 Kent.

Go to Output if you have a fake ID, it's not hard to get in there and they have by far the best bookings of the venues in the city

I thought your comment about people just slapping two words together was questioning the genre, apologies if I read it wrong.

My point with that is that as everyone in this thread probably knows, House started off w/ dj's playing lots of disco records before evolving into what it is today, so if you heard an early House track being dj'd at a club in 2013 it'd probably sound a lot closer to what people are calling Disco House today than a lot of the popular stuff now.

Well golly, thanks mister. I had no idea!
