Actually cooking is really cash efficient, especially if you can get the better recipes earlier. You can get Sorbet (TP +10%) in Capua Nor and Yuri can cook it into Pudding and Cake, which restore 20% and 30% respectively. Being able to restore 30% of your party's TP at the end of every battle is really awesome. Karol can also get you a +15% HP and TP recipe around the spot Admiral is at. Also a lot of the cooking skits are pretty funny.

Cooking can save a lot of gels, which is especially awesome when you don't have the money to buy a bunch of lemon or pineapple gels, and the recipes that give buffs are pretty helpful too. It can also lead to humorous moments where you somehow fail to cook a salad. (Though one wonders how you would even COOK a salad to begin with)

Yuri tends to act like a rear end at times (dropping that pint-sized girl after he caught her, scaring Karol, etc.)but I really believe he's a good guy. I think it's kinda obvious that he would be a better leader than Karol, but he's willing to let Karol be the leader of the guild. Also it's quite obvious he wants Estelle to be part of the guild, but is willing to let her choose whether she wants to join when she's ready, rather than make he choose immediately. Guard Plus  Guard Artes BA Force  Life Healer: Recover some HP after a battle. Defend 2: Defense +10%.  Rod Master: Increases Defense when a Rod is equipped. (I think this Oar counts as a rod.) Magic Rise Attack  Combo Plus Combination Step Combo: Can perform a jump attack when attacking during a Backstep.  Void Attack: Occasionally prevents staggering when receiving a physical attack. Void Magic: Occasionally prevents staggering when receiving a magic attack. Vitality  Rise Attack Magic Stat Boost: Increases the effect of magical status boosts.  Item Thrower Life Up: Occasionally increases Max HP after battle. Neat, but the chance is fairly low and you only get a couple HP when it activates. Taunt  At night... Watch the cutscene!  I thought Karol backed down if you chose him. Going through with it and looking like that... I'm just glad it wasn't actually "seducing" the guard. That would have been a bit too creepy, even for a jRPG.

Yes, you would be correct in that assumption. There's also several more titles for more outfits. It's the only thing titles actually do in Vesperia, except for one more thing that hasn't been gotten to yet.

I don't remember the Dragon Rider attacking Estelle in Heliord, and I don't remember that Cumore guy. I guess I have to go back and re-read some stuff. Some of the names and places aren't ringing any bells. Was Cumore the one who tried to kill Yuri just after Karol ran away from the monster, but he was foiled by the other guys arresting Yuri? Uh... I know the idea was to make a sexy outfit, but that costume of Estelle's was more than I was expecting. Judith's rabbity thing was also strange. Thank goodness the game didn't try to have Karol seduce the guard.  Hmph! I can seduce people just fine!Estelle, I'm not sure you've even had "the talk", yet. EDIT: Hmmm... so the reason why Judith and the other monster are interested in Estelle must be because she can use magic without a blastia. You actually don't get to keep any of them for now, but you can come back later in the game to get all of them. Well, the Estelle/Judith/Girl Karol ones anyway, the Knight costumes are gotten somewhere else I think.

I've even followed them on more than one occasion. It still bugs the crap out of me how the more recent Tales games require you to do baffling things (such as literally defying what the story says you're supposed to be doing) at the strangest and most strict times for your sidequests. I know the game inside and out by now, and I still routinely miss a third of the sidequests each run because I can never remember to do inane thing x at y place and z time without having a memo pasted on my forehead.

On the subject of side quests, I recently started playing and I'm up to the first time you enter Heliord. I was reading up on the side quests you can do at this point and I realized I forgot to talk to Duke back in Deidon Hold. Did I just screw myself out of a side quest?

Pretty sure you don't get anything from that sidequest besides a couple cutscenes with Duke, you should be fine.

Last time, we had some fun with costumes and learned about some kind of shady things at the bottom of Heliord. So let's go and check-- uh oh. Watch the cutscene!     Ah, milord. Are you sure you shouldn't be going to the Sands of Kogorh, now, Sir?Note that this guy has a ridiculous German-ish accent.  Humph. I don't have to pay attention to Alexei's orders. Using the money and weapons I have, everything will soon be within my reach. Yes, you will be taken care of, Yeager. You'll take those weapons I sold you, and attack the Union--BOOM! Ignoring the Don is a big no-no. He is a wonderful guy, ja? Don't go forgetting that. My my. It almost sounds as if you respect the man. Respect him I do, but Leviathan's Claw always gets the job done. Oh ho ho... Such dedication. That's just what I like about you. Don't worry though. You are looking at the future Commandant of the Imperial Knights. That fool Alexei, telling me to watch the Union while he signs friendship treaties with them. Small Girl: A lot of people died from working way too hard. I don't want to grow up to be expendable! A few NPCs are standing around and complaining about the conditions. Walking around a bit, we eventually find Yeager and Cumore. Watch the cutscene!   Hmm? Look who's here. And a group of those red eyes...! Looks like Cumore's become their new client. Hey, do you think that guy who talks all funny could be the red eyes' boss? It sure looks that way from here. The man in the back collapses.  Teagle: Urgh, ugh... Look, that's... It's Teagle. If it's money you want, you'll have more than you can use. Now work! Work! Yuri decides to use his patented stone-throwing technique to get Cumore's attention.   Wh-who?! Yuri Lowell! What are you doing here?! P-Princess...?! You have no right to call yourself a knight! Brute force is not the way to honor the prestige of the empire. Put down your weapons now. You will also release the people you have tricked into coming down here! All of your utopian ramblings make me sick! That's not the kind of thing someone with delusions of becoming Commandant of the Knights would say. You'll be all right now. Yeager! Get rid of them!    I wouldn't even call this battle a proper boss battle, it's easy and Yeager has barely any HP. The lackeys can be a bit annoying but even they don't really pose a threat.  Yeager's got a couple attacks with his scythe and gun, but thanks to his low HP you won't see a lot of them. Don't worry, we'll see him again later.     There isn't even a Secret Mission so not even the game considers this a real boss battle.   How could the empire cover for such evil? We can't just let it go. You should dry off first. (or something like that, she's kinda hard to understand here)  Flynn...?! Well, send him away!Knight: We tried, but he insists on coming down to perform an inspection. That lower quarter lout. He simply has no tact! Gauche, Droite.  Yes, Yeager. I think we better be making with the escape, ja?Droite throws a smoke bomb.  Aah...what is this?! Please step this way. We'll get you next time! What an original line.The smoke dissipates. If we don't follow them they'll...! But... I don't know who's job is what, but are we following them or not?   Everyone freeze! That's enough! Hey, just in time. Yuri...?! (to Teagle) Can you get up?Teagle: Y-yes... Sorry, but it looks like something's come up. You'll have to head back by yourself. Teagle: I will. And thank you. So we are going after them. Yeah. I'm sure Flynn has things under control here. Sound good, Karol? Yeah. Plus, I think Estelle's going to take off after them any minute. Sorry. Jeez! We're going after them, right? So let's get going! All right. Yuri, wait! Gotta run, Flynn!Yuri and his party runs off.   ... Following that scene, we get thrown onto the world map, with no choice but to walk along the only possible path (since we can't go back into Heliord). Skit: Yeager's Speech That man called Yeager certainly had a unique way of talking. Unique isn't the word I'd use. I had a hard time understanding some of the stuff he said. An ancient way of speaking, lost in this day and age... What? Are you serious?! ...It would at least make a good story if that were true. *Sigh* Skit: What Flynn Thinks Flynn was asking for Estelle to come back with him, right? The Knights can't help thinking that the best place for a princess is a castle. He's just worried that he won't be able to keep track of her. But Estelle decided to set out on this journey on her own, and you want to respect that. I haven't really thought about it all that much. The Knights are bound to keep following you though, as long as Estelle's with you. And what kind of a guild would we be if we didn't get into trouble with the Knights? I don't think fighting with the Knights is actually a guild requirement...  Watch the cutscene!  Looks like they ended up getting away. Where are we, anyway? ...A forest in central Tolbyccia. If I'm right, Torim Harbor is east of here. We should probably just get to the harbor rather than going back to Heliord. What? But what about Cumore?! Do we just let him go? I thought the purpose of your journey was to find Phaeroh. Well I... ...I-I'm sorry. That was never my intention... Aww, she's just telling you to relax. Besides, Flynn's on the scene, right? You can be sure he'll take care of things.  Just about ta ask the same questions myself.  What's wrong, miss genius mage? Forget me already? It's me, Raven the Great. Who the hell do you... I told ya, Raven the Great... ...Man. Yer a scary little kid, ya know that? So? What are you up to? With all the stuff you've been doin', poor Raven got sent all the way out here to keep an eye on ya. Why would they do that? Raven's pretty hungry, ya see... Okay, let's go. Torim is a just very short walk away. Skit: The Scheming Partners Oh, those two scheming together. What, you mean Cumore and Yeager? Yes. Maybe they saw that they had a lot in common with each other. A lot in common? Like being raving lunatics. Whatever the case, they made one hell of a combo. Looking at those two made me feel totally normal. Get a couple of nasty people together, and they'll put together some nasty plans. We were right to let Flynn deal with it before things got really out of hand. Skit: The Guild's Founding Members That settles it. Our guild is off and running! What settles what? Our guild's gonna be called Brave Vesperia! Estelle came up with it for us! Hmm. Brave Vesperia, huh? Don't tell me you actually got Estelle to become a member. No, no... It's just the three of us for now. I'm the Boss, and then there's Yuri and Judith, too! What do you think? Pretty awesome, huh?! ...Yeah, it's amazing. They actually let you be the Boss. Cumore really needs a sense of fashion. That getup looks terrible. Is that man-cleavage he's sporting? (Funny, his VA also did the voice for another villain with man-cleavage in Altlier Iris 2.) I think there's more to that German guy than meets the eye.

I liked the way the writers lampshaded Yeager's improbable German accent. Also, am I the only one that finds Yeager deciding to make 2 little girls his top lieutenants a little creepy?
