Vizio bought my m series back due to light bleed. was nice getting a check 23 months after i bought it for the purchase amount.

I had a 61" Samsung DLP. Developed spotting inside the screen (looked like droplets of some liquid that had hit the inside of the screen during construction and slowly accumulated dust over three years). Told me to take it to Best Buy for replacement. Told them the nearest Best Buy was ~700 miles away, by boat or plane only. Sent me a check for $2100. Sold TV to a friend for $500 or something.

It was the greatest moment of my life. Extended warranties do occasionally pay off.

The only thing people who use soundbars are serious about is their wives/partners approving how the living room looks.

Sound bars have their place. And that place is in your casual living room setup, when you have a dedicated HT room with much better.

My first LCD (a 55" Vizio) had it turned on and my reaction was "wtf is this creepy rear end poo poo?"

So you're not specifying a model or even a recent experience and yet still making GBS threads all over it?

I had an 880 and hated it and thought it was a pile of poo poo. hth

it has a remote and an IR receiver so I was able to program the Harmony to do it all. It even turns on automatically when the TV comes on.

I just plugged mine into a USB port on the TV and it does the same thing, which I did not know for sure would work until I did it.

Extended warranties average out to a money losing proposition but if you're really worried then get it. 800 seems pretty steep but I guess it is an expensive TV.

I bought extended warranties on two or three expensive items and ended up using two of them and making out like a bandit. This was like 10-15 years ago though when I think you could tilt the warranty usage odds in your favor just by holding onto your paperwork and receipts and poo poo, now I'm guessing that no longer matters and it's all registered electronically.

One was on a $1000 Sony digital camera that the iris starting sticking at certain apertures. They sent it in to get it fixed but couldn't so they just gave me $1000 in store credit and I bought a 2.5 year newer camera.

Other was a 61" DLP and again they couldn't fix it so they actually mailed me a check for the full purchase price (minus warranty cost of course).

4K is “oh that’s nice” without content that’s actually shot in 4K but HDR is a revelation

This. 4k doesn't mean jack poo poo to most people, which are watching a 55" TV at 8' plus. HDR makes a difference at any size/res.

65” and probably 10-12 ft here and yup, can’t see any obvious ‘don’t need to side by side it’ to see a difference here either most of the time.

The benefit is cable is usually watchable at least.

Exactly. The 4k "difference" just doesn't exist for most users. With a 55"-65" with normal living room viewing distances it just isn't resolvable. 4k starts to matter if you're using it as a computer monitor. Or your TV is huge (75"+ or a projector). Or you sit very close to a 55-65 (less than 8').

I have a projector in my basement that could absolutely benefit from 4k but they're still crazy expensive. The 65" in my living room upstairs will never benefit from 4k. It just isn't needed.

The KS8000 was one of 2016's TVs To Have and holds up to 2017 models if you ask me (I have one so make of this statement what you will) but Samsung's own 2017 offerings have been reportedly dogshit and the 2016s aren't as easy to find, and, well, now the Sony thing is the new Hot poo poo so here we are.

So you think Samsung regressed between 2016 and 2017 or you think other manus advanced more rapidly which would make the KS8000 even more dogshit than 2017 Samsungs?
