What type of media sources does "video processing" affect? I've been reading reviews comparing Samsung plasmas to Panasonic plasmas and they mention that Samsung video processing is much better. Would that make a difference with Apple TV? Games? Cable?

All video sources unless you turn it off. Which you should for games.

Thinking about getting an M60-C3. I currently have an Apple TV 4, PS4, XBone, and a gaming/DVR PC connected to my TV through an Onkyo TX-NR515 which can apparently upscale to 4K. Does this seem like a good idea? The Rtings review suggested a lot of motion blur, but is it that big a deal? Also, any ideas how best to hook it all up? The receiver has two HDMI out - one that upconverts (and is the ARC port, I guess?) and one that doesn't. Would it make sense to connect the upconverting one to the ARC port on the TV when watching movies and the non-one to HDMI 5 for playing games? Would this even work or would the receiver always send stuff to HDMI 1? This is kinda new to me since it would be my first smart TV.

Anyone know much about this tv? One of the Best Buy schmucks was saying that TVs from Sams club are often a slightly different model so as to get the lower price. Is there any truth to this?
He's right about the first part, but no idea about the latter. They do this so they don't have to price match.

HDMI-CEC is really nice except for one thing: cats are more than heavy enough to hit buttons on my Apple TV remote, which is Bluetooth, so I woke up to a completely on entertainment system since I didn't think about that at all.

How bad is using something like the regular Android Amazon video app "sideloaded" via a remote?

My Sony XBR55X810C came with an Amazon Prime app, so maybe it's not available on the store, but it's already on the TV. I can't imagine the higher Sony models don't come with it, also. WatchESPN does not seem to be available on, which is a bummer, nor does Disney Jr.

Get a VESA stand like mentioned in the post above yours and you can just put it on the table below the screen. It'll have the added bonus of probably being way more sturdy than the stock stand.

I actually may not even be able to get a 65" model depending on how they build the base of the TV since my entertainment stand is pretty much exactly as wide as my 55W900a.
This is irrelevant unless you are already using the VESA mounts. There's plenty of tabletop VESA mounts that are narrower than the TV but still way more stable than stock stands. (Stability might not be a big issue for you, but my last TV got knocked over by my cat, and I'd rather not deal with that again. It surprisingly survived with just some added light bleed.) I've posted it before, but this is the one I got and it's really nice. Granted, it requires spending a little more money, if it's the difference between what you really want and what otherwise works, it makes sense to me.

My Sony even has a "football" mode which I assume helps, but I've just set mine to game mode and never touched it. Looks fine for games/sportsball/movies.

Football mode is nice! It turns on the motion interpolation and brightens the screen. Just be sure to turn it off after the game.

Whichever size Vizio E-series is in your budget would be the best bet. Looks like the E43-C2 inch is $350 from Amazon or the E48-C2 is $400 at Best Buy (not available on Amazon). You might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere as it'll probably be going on clearance shortly.

You won't find a good TV without smart TV features, so move past that. You don't have to use them if you don't want.

Should I consider this over the Visio E 43 inch for $350? 4K doesn't seem like something I really need, but if it can extend the life of my tv a couple years it could be worth it.

I would spend an additional $150 for 7 more inches if it's in your budget, even if you don't really intend to use 4K (you probably won't notice a difference at 50").

The only thing that sucks is when an android update hits it takes a long time to update. Otherwise, I still love it to death.

My Sony uses Android TV which is nicer and has a better ecosystem than Fire TV or Roku. I'll grant that in a couple years it'll be slow compared to those at which point maybe I'll stop using the built in apps

That said, if you're on Vizio's home grown thing or Tizen on a Samsung, Fire TV or Roku is probably a better option.

I always kept hold of my 50" Panasonic plasma box because it was the ideal way to transport the TV when moving house etc, but I had a big storeroom so keeping it wasn't a big deal. Now I'm in a condo, a 65" TV box isn't really what I want taking up all my space, and it's not quuuuuite as good as the Panny one anyway. I'd lose my mind if it got damaged if we move out in a year though... is it better to just keep it assembled and wrap in thick moving blankets? At least it won't be leaving the city this time.
I threw mine out since I live in an apartment. When moving time comes, you can always buy another box. There's lots of places that sell good ones with foam inside.

If the width of the stand is your limiting factor, why not just buy a third-party VESA stand? I had to do that for my 810c, and it's massively more stable than the stock one seemed like it would be. Maybe doesn't look as nice but

Endless Mike
Aug 13, 2003

Not using a VESA mount is a pretty lovely exclusion with no net positives that I can think of beyond loving consumers, but I guess when you're the only show in town, you can get away with that sort of thing.

I don't really consider TVs stylish by any stretch - just varying levels of unstylishness. Especially when you're talking a big, black rectangle, so I don't see how that's an issue. But it's also moot since it's not an option.
