What's a war hero got to do to get some lubrication around here?

I kept meaning to order that back when I had money, but never did. Maybe in the future.

The Commentaries are interesting, as its more just two friends shooting the poo poo, sometimes they talk about the show, other times they just kind of talk about random stuff.

Also, I think I also preordered the book 4 years ago. And canceled that preorder over a year ago when the book was canceled. Then tried to preorder it again when it was un-canceled but couldn't. Now I have preordered it again. I don't have high hopes for ever holding it in my hands.

Exploration is ill-advised.

The pilot definitely isn't what I'd sell people on the show with, but it's still pretty good on its own, and does a decent job at establishing the start of the characters' status quo.

I know it's super-awesome to quote your own posts, but all this talk lately about how long it takes for Doc and Jackson to plop out a new chunk of content had me remembering way back when I "jokingly" made this song parody:

tarlibone posted:

In the year 2525
If people still seek heaven
If the bread of life is still leaven
They can watch Venture Bros. Season 7

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you watch, do or hate
Will be referenced in Season 8

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
But without your eyes, you will pine
Because you won't be able to see Season 9

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your butt's on the couch in the den
As you await the premiere of Season 10

In the year 6565
Doctor Venture will divorce his wife
And all those loose threads from Season 7
Will be finally resolved in Season 11

In the year 7510
Doc 'n Jackson will get it done by then
And those cancellation rumors they'll shelve
When they start streaming Season 12

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head then
He'll either say I'm pleased what man has seen
Or tear it down and start Season 13

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if Dean is gonna be alive
He's learned all the supersience he could glean
You'll laugh about it all in Season 14

Now it's been 10,000 years
Fans have cried a billion tears
For what we never knew
There's no Season 15; they didn't renew

But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

For some reason itís super popular in Macau casinos.

I had a James Bond Gameboy game as a kid and it had a bit where you had to play Baccarat and that taught me that it was a really dumb game.

Macau Baccarat in particular has a lot to do with laundering cash/fudging money transfer limits out of China. That's why there's so much "borrowed money" shenanigans and $1 million buy-in sort of things done for it there.

Here's the thing: you don't need to. You just bet. It's practically a combination of Candyland and betting on a coin toss. The dealer plays both hands (so like a coin toss), but the drawing rules are a strict formula (akin to how Candyland is simply a function of the order that the cards are dealt. There is no strategy to follow.).

You bet on the player or house, Both hands are dealt two cards. If one is an 8 or 9, it wins. Otherwise, the chart says what happens after that.

The only simpler card game would be betting on someone playing War against themselves.

I actually played baccarat for the first time and can confirm this. Won $160, lost it all, won $170, lost that and have no idea how it happened. It wasn't my money, but it sure was fun.

Yeah its kind of a nuts game. The only real playing you do is trying to manage your betting to stay ahead of your losses. Bank has a slight edge in the odds for reasons that I'm not smart enough to understand.

The funny thing is that the actual game that the two hands are playing is somewhat sophisticated itself and would make a great time, in the style of blackjack, but no one plays it that way anymore.

Exploration is ill-advised.

Was a bit of a plot hole when Casino Royale changed it to Texas Hold-Em poker or whatever, because that's more luck-based than the card-counting skill that Bond's strategy in the original book relied on, iirc.

Of course, Brock enjoys poker more, as you can experience for yourself.
