So it is a merge, and not exactly as pictured on the sign (where the car in the second lane essentially has no room to get up to speed and merge)? It may seem like a stupid question, but I'm pretty sure North American traffic engineers would try to implement this sort of exit exactly as drawn on the sign.

From what I've seen the usual approach here is to have the two lanes of the on ramp merge down to one before it reaches the freeway.

There's been a crazy amount of wrong way drivers in the Valley this year, or at least there seems to be. Is it like that elsewhere too?

This. I'd love to have winter tires on for the cold weather, but there are periods where I'd be changing my tires daily. There was a week last year with two days that topped out in the low teens, bookended by days in the fifties.

Then you should be switching out your tires daily, or even hourly, if that's the case. This is part of the responsibility of owning and operating an automobile. It is a travesty that the obligation all drivers have towards the safety of others is not hammered into new drivers from the minute they decide they might like to get their learner's permit.

quote:

According to a police report, the incident began around 6:15 p.m. when both drivers turned off 67th Avenue onto Happy Valley Road. Megofna's 4-year-old daughter was in his vehicle, secured in a child safety seat in the back of his van.

After the shooting, both men called 911 and Megofna waited by his vehicle for police to arrive, the report said.

The report said that the victim, whose name was not released, told investigators that Megofna "flipped him off" and then fired a round into his vehicle, piercing both his arms and exiting through the driver's side door.

Megofna told police that the victim initiated the conflict and then swerved into his lane as they were traveling along Happy Valley Road. He said he perceived a threat to himself and his daughter, pulled out his holstered .45-caliber pistol and fired a round through his open driver's window into the victim's auto, according to the police report.

You must signal the direction before giving any input to the steering wheel.

Car makers should create a new "no turn signal" which indicates at all times the turn signal is not.

Phoenix doesn't even really have storm drains, which is fun because while it doesn't get snow, it does get monsoon rains. Real monsoons, it's the same phenomenon as in India/Bangladesh.

And there are bits where one road dips below street level to pass under another road. And of course there are signs that warn against entry during flood conditions, but every so often some dumb motherfucker drowns because he enters during flood conditions.

Phoenix drivers during rain are lol D.C. drivers during snow, except that it rains a lot more often in Phoenix than it snows in D.C.

It's bad enough that "turn around don't drown" becomes a meme on the local news and the state has started requiring people to pay for having their car towed out of the flood because it happens so frequently.

Snow honestly wouldn't be as bad as rain > freeze would be. That ground is so hard half an inch of rain causes standing water for days.

The answers are easy, the general driver ability is higher so the chances of being rear ended at a junction are much lower than they are in the US and if an emergency vehicle needs to pass, well that's what mirrors are for. You should of seen it in enough time to start the engine and then move.

Hazards are not to be used in Britain but if you are going to be stationery for more than a couple of seconds you should have the handbrake on and if you are stationery for more than 5 seconds you should take it out of gear as well. Positive control (ie be under breaking or use of the accelerator) should be maintained at all times. What happens in reality is people tend to sit in gear but with their foot on the break, fewer people have the handbrake on and fewer sit with both handbrake and neutral. One or two sit with the foot on the brake and left in the gear they stopped in (usually third) and only realise when they try to pull away and almost stall it.

It is a wonder Americans manage to drive and still somehow remember to breathe.
