Mafia's a game about an uninformed majority hunting scum and trying to become informed. I'm becoming more and more anxious about the idea that diplomats are becoming an elite group where information is hoarded and doled out as a select few see fit, especially when corruption's likely in that grouping. Transparency is crucial if the uninformed may become the enlightened.

A functional imperial government needs open discussion between diplomat and members, or you risk crowning a scum emperor in the guise of a "strategic diplomat." I'm getting scummy vibes, at least in Sandy's play as our diplomat. We were told that someone was teching but not who. We've been signed up for an alliance, and we don't know with who! Does anyone out there not a diplomat know who we're allied with? Can you tell me, so I don't send Aksum warriors to camp out on your lawn?

Admittedly I have some anti-Byers bias because yuming was giving me scummy vibes, but I just don't quite follow this particular logic.

Once Sandwolf is dead, and if he flipped town, it would be easy to say, "well he seemed scummy" and move on from there. Maybe Byers wants to be diplo.

Between the two, I'd vote Byers, mostly for not sharing his opinion in the empire doc, and just attacking the diplomat in thread initially.

If he gave a crap about his empire, you'd think he'd ask/discuss in the doc first, maybe get some clarification.
