That was quick. A change of ownership and a revolving door of managers arent exactly a good sign of stability. Hopefully they will fold like marussia and people can finally stop saying "It wouldnt be f1 without ferrari" when the season starts off without a hitch.

Fun facts: If the Mercedes engine really does prove better than this year, it seems that Romain Grosjean is set to eclipse nick heidfeld in the number one slot for the most dubious record: "most points eithout a win".

Also positions 2 through 7 of all time were occupied by drivers who contested the 2014 season. Not sure what to read into that, but it must be something. ..

This might be the only sustainable future of f1, at least at the midfield level. The sport needs to move away from the "design bespoke 50 million dollar car, throw away for the next year and start over" model.

It has bothered.me for a while that the cars get new names every year, actually. Is the RB7 REALLY all that different to the RB9?

What is in it for these test/reserve/simulator drivers? From what I hear they pay pretty much what they would if they were in the car to stand around in the uniform, and are kicked to the curb when they run out of funds. Look at Giedo van der Gard and how it worked out for him.

Why not do a season in GP2 or GT3 cars to stay sharp and actually get a seat for your money?

Not for a second. They can't shut up about "a new era" or whatever and they run the same modified mercedes/west livery they've been running for 20 years?!

Just pallet-swapping the silver for white would have been acceptable. But I assume this is a sign of ongoing "no, we won't pay you like a WCC/WDC champion team" title sponsor negotiation.

We know there were strong rumblings of this being a testing livery, and imagine if they kept the whole thing and just dropped the silver for white, and the mclaren logos for real sponsors (that i guess didnt pay for testing). It makes a lot more sense as a white/orange/black livery.

Looking at the red bull running around without its front wing yesterday really interested me, if you havent seen it google around. I like the idea of banning front wings altogether and making up as much grip as possible with better tires. Of course this would cripple current cars but if it was wrapped into a new technical formula (complete with wide tires and 1000HP, and stick shift) i think it would help the series. (and reduce dumb DNFs and pit stops caused by bumping the fragile front wing

Its interesting to think of all the partnerships and versions of lotus have been around over the years. From Lotus-Mercedes today to Malay "Lotus Racing" Cosworth. Its like a racing corpse that various entities try to wear the decaying skin of.

PS, Jensen Button for WDC 2015. Hows that for a bold prediction? Despite all the testing problems, honda will have cheated after all with their year-long access to the best lump around (and master cheats mclaren stage a testing cover story of a barely running engine) than on P1 of Australia the covers come off (a red and white livery with big black MARLBORO stickers) and ron dennis has summoned the ghost of john button into that engine and they will walk away with it in the first few races. A slowly recovering Alonso dominates the second half of the season but jensen puts together just enough P4s to clinch it in the last race.

(Jensen wins another WDC, tying are lewus, having both years appeared to be out of a drive at the end of the previous season)

for the first part of the season they will be running a hastily modified 2014 chassis with the 2014 ferrari PU, but they will transition to a new chassis with the new engine at some point. i don't think ferrari wants to keep supplying the old one.

By this i assume they mean "We will enter the minimum number of races required to collect our 2014 winnings in order to pay off our massive debt (Something the administrators couldnt find a way to get out of a dead team, and trust me they tried), than fold sometime around spain or monaco."

They are the f1 version of those NASCAR teams that do the parade lap and park to collect sponsor income without the expenses of running a race car.

As for sauber (or ferrari for that matter) f1 is and should be bigger than any team. If we have Vapeaire Google Tesla racing against Mcdonalds MSNBC Nissan, as long as its an open wheeled contructors formula, its still every bit as f1 as it was in 1950, or 1970, or 2014. Ferrari, Team lotus, Brabham and Honda can all take their combined heritage and stick it. In short yes, i would like nothing more than for historic teams like Ferrari and Sauber to fold if they are going to go around acting like heritage actually entitles them to something. Nothing about Mark webbers endurance car 20 years ago makes me ok with them dicking over a young driver who worked his whole life for something that is already over and gets nothing out of it because of them.

I would be 100% on board with a redesign of monaco by the best example they can find of young fresh track designers who can modernize it and make the lap a little longer, while keeping historic elements like the tunnel, casino square and the final corner before the main straight jackie stewart always watches from intact. Modernizing spa certainly didnt ruin its classic appeal. (Hungaroring or Silverstone, on the other hand.... i have NO idea why they would ever gently caress with silverstone after the 90s era, it was featureless but a great circuit)

If they want to host the 100th anniversery of formula 1 cars racing there they will likely have to, before the cars get too fast to go slow, or they kill someone.

I don't even think this spells the end for VDGs career even if he doesn't drive. Being willing to stick up for your legal obligations and win might look good to other people wanting to come on board to his pay driver sponsorship package and make him a more attractive driver to hire.
