Reminder that Dominos/Papa Johns is seen as 'fancy' pizza in the UK and is about twice the price of your average takeaway.

Yeah it's crazy expensive for what it is for some reason. I've never understood how they survive really. I guarantee you they are not seen as 'fancy' though.

could be different by region I guess but man get the gently caress out of wherever those are 'fancy'

I didn't really mean fancy 'fancy' just relative to your average greasy kebab place :(

Yeah it's no battered sausage, chips and gravy, with bag of scraps but that's not saying much

That's a slightly crap looking version of Ligurian pizza, which is on a focaccia base. Usually you want it fresh from the oven with a bit of cheese but baked so it's a bit blackened. Also lots of olive oil in the focaccia. It's good poo poo when done well.

Despite this particular example being from San Francisco this is more what we get around here, though this actually looks better:

Anyway, all seem to basically be the same family and all seems to come originally from Liguria. Fun and confusing that they're also just called 'pizza'. Done well it fuckken oooowns though.

edit: poo poo I ended up posting food porn. Sorry.

I was in hospital for a couple of weeks in march with sepsis. First couple of days out the ICU I was barely eating and everything tasted awful and was dry as hell (a kind of dry hamburger patty and a soup I thought would be minestrone but turned out to be minestrAne I.e weak lovely broth with over cooked pasta bits were my first meal)

However once I started properly recovering and my insides started to wake up again I was absolutely ravenous and would time my day by when I would next be able to eat. Turns out that hunger really is the best sauce. Even when I got back home to good food I was daydreaming about eating the hospital food!

Dolsot bibimbap is also a different thing. Regular is always bad.

One of the saddest things you've reported over the years I've read your posts is that normal korean food is kinda bad because man the 'real' idealised stuff generally rocks.

I guess it's like the general normal 'english' food and it's actual potential when done really well but the other way round. :smith:

Korean food in theory rocks so much and I love eating and cooking it.
edit: and yes I realise you've said before that the over sweetened kinda tasteless stuff is relatively new.

Jains are not only vegetarian, they also do not eat root vegetables including onion and garlic.

If you held a gun to my head, I could eat vegetarian for the rest of my life. I do it frequently already. I would miss meat, but I could do it and still enjoy eating.

If I couldn't use any onions or garlic, I'd just let you pull the trigger and end my suffering.

My wife makes fun of me for going "oh that smells good, what's for dinner?" when it is literally just onions and garlic and butter in the pan right at the start of cooking.

I get confused about that because I still see jain recipes use ginger sometimes?
