You know what's bullshit?

The fact that the Gamecube's official abbreviation was "GCN". What the gently caress is that supposed to stand for? GameCube Nintendo?

Gabe Cuban was involved in the design of the Gekko IBM chip and they used his name to create the acronym since it was similar to GameCube and with GameBoy being GB and then having potentially having GC the decision was made to differentiate between the two.

Some games do this, you do it by having the mouse control an imaginary cursor and the aiming follow it at a realistic speed.

It's funny playing Max Payne 3 on the PC because the engine is all set up to have realistic animations that make your body move at the speed a person could (so looks fine on a controller) but then you add a mouse and it breaks the animations over a table because they couldn't limit the aim speed of it. I imagine RedDead 2 on PC does it too.

VR controllers are pretty close to getting it right, give it another decade.

I have mad respect for Sekiro for being a tightly designed game that doesn't pull any punches, but a huge part of the appeal of Dark Souls and Bloodborne is that you can dick around and do fun stuff forever if something is too hard and come back when your ready. Sekiro is made solely for people that like to bash their heads against bosses for hours, because there isn't a whole hell of a lot else to do except push forward.

Is it even possible to get that running ok on PC's these days? Pretty sure it was made specifically for a certain range of Voodoo cards and ran like dogshit on anything else. It's one of the first games I got from GOG and it was really disappointing to see how stuttery it ran.

I had some sort of Voodoo card back then and it was still rear end. Using the speargun? thing was rad though.

The Sega Saturn was a much better console than the N64, I still have fun with my Saturn today and the games on it don't feel the least bit dated for the most part.

I don't know why exactly but the N64 just bothers me, everything about it has that Rare aesthetic, down to the crappy translucent green plastic, the blurry 2D visuals overlaid over 3D, the way every game tried to up the ante in the wrong way and ended up looking ugly.

I mean come on, you can’t say that the games don’t even look the least bit dated if you have at least one working eyeball

I'm pretty sure no one here thinks that. It's simply about having more realistic characters instead of perpetuating the idea women exist for men's desires all (most of) the time every time. Nudity isn't even generally the issue, it's the poo poo like the Everquest cover art/widowmaker/jaina breasts. Even Hearthstone actually replaced Succubus with Felstalker and Blizzard sucks. Lol the tagline for Succubus "Warlocks have it pretty good." Hilarious. At least it would maybe be mildly funny if it was such a frequent thing in games.

You realize that an unsubstantiated percentage of 9X% thrown in a simple conversation like this one is hyperbole to illustrate "a crippling majority". Nonetheless, thank you Rubitex for providing the information. As the graph shows: the vast, vast majority of people in the profession are men, making games for men, by men. As the graph shows, there is still a big fight to continue to reach equality in the work place, in order to balance out the appeal. As the graph shows, the point that the industry is biased against women in a systemic manner is still true today in 2019.

There is a lot of work to be done, and forced parity has to be implemented when possible.

In conclusion, Steam cards are actually good and cool.

The games where I've given a gently caress about the story-- your Metal Gear Solids, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Psychonauts, Final Fantasy VI, The Witcher 2, Shadowrun Returns 1-3, Resident Evil Remake 1-2, Knights of the Old Republic, Devotion/Detention, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Sexy Brutale, What Remains of Edith Finch, Layers of Fear, Half-Life 1-Episode 2, Portal 2, Fallout 1-2 and New Vegas, and Monkey Island 1-2 all had two out of three things in common:

1. I was playing them as a literal child/teenager with a lot more time and a lower frame of reference for what constitutes truly deep art.

2. The games had exceptional presentation with the option to skip forward once you go the jist of what was going on.

3. The gameplay loops-- major and micro--were engaging. Even during the bullshit 20 minute cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid you could still gently caress around with joysticks in the Codec window or bounce around the room in Half-Life 2 and throw objects at the NPC's stupid faces.

I wasn’t posting ironically, I’m never going to sit there and go “wow this story is so incredible” if I’m playing video games I just want to play video games not have some ham fisted plot line shoved down my throat by d list actors
