Every story I've seen from real life burger restaurants that experiment with raising pay to $15/hr has resulted in improved customer experience, increased employee satisfaction, better retention/less turnover, and overall increased profits (not just net revenue) compared to paying current federal minimum. But hey, if people don't have to suffer in order to survive, it doesn't build ~~character~~.

There's a burger shop on campus that I tried recently, puts 5 Guys to shame. Has a built-in bar, too, and a good meal price for students. Still close at 10 though, the fuckwits.

Word from the shop is $4k for a junkyard motor, $7k for new, plus inspecting for potential transmission damage. As much joy as the car has brought me over the years it's not worth it. Junkyard blocks are about $1k, so even overhauling my original block which I still have it's $3k labor to install plus whatever the machine shop charges to fix it; it needs pistons and rods at a minimum. Time to start looking for a new ride. My mom seems to be guiding me toward taking out a loan for a new car since I'll be graduated in a year, but  . I'm leaning toward a 90s-early 00s beater pickup, I have a short commute and the utility would be nice.Mazda curse claims another one.

God loving dammit. So I've been getting rides from classmates since my car died. One of them was supposed to get my this morning at 7, way earlier than I normally wake up (he has 7:30 class); I set three separate alarms with overlapping snooze repeat times, so it would slowly build to an endless cacophony. So of course my phone dies overnight despite being plugged in. And in my sleepiness I flipped my alarm clock switch to the wrong position so that didn't go off either. So after waiting an unknown time at my place he obviously left and may or may not have been late to class because of my stupidity. And I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get an uber or some poo poo. Why am I such a fuckup?

E: I'm not in full on self hate mode like I was right after it happened but I'm still annoyed with myself and my phone. Charge cable has been wonky for a while, but it seems noticeably worse lately.

Trying to figure out what variety of beater I should get. Economy car? Full-size pickup? Caprice wagon? I commute about 2k miles/yr (just to school and back, ~10mi round trip) so gas isn't really a huge concern, and if I"m dropping cash on a long-term ride it's gotta fit my neanderthal dimensions at least somewhat comfortably.

The MSP had a black interior which is the bit that really matters, I'm p much used to it by now. Upshot is it should be easy to find window vent shades for it and just leave em cracked when I park in sunlight.

My only input is that Apple had to go from saying "VIRUS-PROOF" to "You'll never get a ~~Windows virus~~ on your imac pro" once their stuff actually got enough market share to be worth writing malware for. Like immunity by obscurity isnt a thing anymore but they still push it as a selling point and I think that's funny.

Man. Some poo poo happened at my school club last week. I'd rather not go into details, but an ongoing bad thing in a certain club project was made right, with consequences for project funding for the entire club, including mine. We'll recover but some hella cool poo poo I wanted to try and do for a senior design project is almost certainly not gonna happen, and for once the bad thing actually was something completely and utterly out of my control. Ethically it was the right move, but I'm E: Guess my senior design project will be a loving hardware rack or something. Which is fine and all, but man the poo poo I had planned would have been dope.
