Even worse the specific time I watched the death episode.

The family finds out their dad has died. Very sad, sombre, of course. Then it cuts to the commercial break and the very first thing is an air freshener advert where a dad is lying face down on the living room carpet surrounded by his family who look at each other and shrug their shoulders. There couldn't have been a less appropriate advert in the world.

It was so loving funny. Every time that episode is brought up I smile.

That reminds me of a similar thing from the BSG run. Adama has a breakdown gun to his head, crying and Tigh has to talk him down and they both break down in tears and Comercial starts with "CHEEEEEEZEWIZ ADDS PERSONALITY!"

NBC Universal blocked this. Is it the infamous Campbell's Tomato Soup sequence?

For those who don't know, it tops BunnyofDoom's example. I never even watched the show and it sticks out in memory. A character rather suddenly grabs a gun and shoots herself in the head, smash cut to commercials. The first ad is for Campbell's Tomato Soup, shown pouring into a bowl in loving slow motion while we hear the lyrics "I just want to celebrate/another day of living..."

Holy poo poo. I must have missed that one.

Thanks to Boyle she can send romantic texts to anyone.

I haven't seen the season so I don't know where they go with it. Hopefully they had some good ideas and were at least able to do the cliche well. Thinking about it some more I'm not surprised they wanted to pivot on the character after the weird romance she had going with crazy bearded guy in the the last episodes I watched. That was pretty bad.

So wait, you had your little freakout, even thought you hadn't seen the episodes, or known what actually happened, and are insisting everyone who has seen the season is wrong?

The problem is that there was never a planned out mytharc. The only reason the X-Files had one was because they needed a reason for Gillian Anderson to disappear for a few episodes due to being pregnant.

I've said it many times, with how streaming is changing the face of TV, I would love to see a procedural where cases aren't exactly solved in one episode. Make one monster of the week last 3 weeks, or hell, maybe resolve in week 4 in connection with a different monster of the week.

I mean, Bosch, Murder One, the Killing etc are that. Heck, Even Gotham usually has multi-episode villains.

Raymond Chandler was one of the creators of the hardboiled detective genre and, while there's plenty of FOR HIS TIME in his work, he throws around the n word a LOT in Farewell, My Lovely. It would be more palatable if the protagonist, presented as a cynical, but open minded, guy wasn't saying it, too.

In the same one he also tosses out a whole buncha other slurs too, and also has a racist characture of a native american.

On the flip side he also calls out police racism too, wherein the police department has a single detective on the case of a guy* who murders a couple black men who is overworked because they dump all the crimes where POC are victims on him, and as a result, none get solved. This is protrayed as hosed up, and Marlowe is the only one who gives a poo poo enough to solve it.
