One of my MacBook (butterfly) keys was a little sticky, so I followed this informative and insightful guide to try to fix it:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205662

As a result, now 10+ keys are far more stuck than the one that was sticking, including a completely unusable space bar :downs:

After reading other people’s experiences with this, anyone have any tips for how to avoid a lovely repair experience? Sounds like I’m gonna walk into the Apple Store appointment I have on Monday, have someone paw at the keys and say “yeah it’s out of warranty and needs the entire top to be replaced.” Aside from that taking it out of commission for longer than I’d like, it also apparently costs 400-700 dollars :/

I could try removing the keys on my own to clean but a) if any of them break its difficult to get replacements, b) I watched a MacBook Pro w/same keys very delicately remove a space bar with proper technique and it broke 3+ clips, cheapest replacement space bar for butterfly I’ve found is 70 bucks

This laptop was very needs suiting before it was crippled by keys not being able to be pressed :smith:

lol

replacing thinkpad keyboard:

remove 5 screws
lift keyboard out
buy new keyboard for $40
place down new keyboard
put back the 5 screws

has there ever been an actual ticking bomb scenario in all of recorded history, like there's something gonna blow up and there's actually a chance for the authorities to do anything about it? maybe during the troubles in the uk/ireland? my understanding is most bombs aren't left in place very long

There was that pizza delivery guy who had a bomb strapped around his neck by kidnappers who then sent him to rob a bank. It was on a timer and it went off while he was in handcuffs. This happened in I believe California about 9 years ago. There's video of his neck blowing up. It's not gruesome somehow, but it'll ruin your day if you watch it so I recommend only reading about it.

Pennsylvania. And unlike the previous example, there actually was literally not enough time for the pizza delivery guy to ever accomplish all of his tasks before the explosion killed him. He was as good as dead as soon as they slapped the explosives on his neck.

(But he was a collaborator anyway so he wasn’t exactly innocent)

I thought I read later on that him being a collaborator was bullshit and just an excuse to give the kidnappers a lighter sentence? If he was collaborating why would they use a real bomb?

Edit: the Wikipedia article said they forced the bomb on him. Also it's kinda weird that he decided to rob a bank minutes after meeting random people that ordered a pizza to an odd location. Also the woman that claimed this was a paranoid schizophrenic who killed three of her ex-husbands. And later on the stand she changed her story where she said the first and only time she met him was the day they ordered pizza from him.

I just read an updated article on the guy and the only time he ever called in sick to work in his 10 years delivering pizza was when his cat died :smith:

I just read the article. I can't believe the delivery guys got almost half the sentence the actual bomber did. The story even acknowledged that they were former employees hired to make a delivery and they had no idea it was a bomb. Which I believe. Why would the bomber tell more people than he had to?

Also the craziest poo poo is that it was going to go off in eight days at the most. There was apparently literally no way to dismantle the bomb without causing an explosion unless you knew the code.

FYI this no longer matters. You can rip off tamper seals and the manufacturer cannot deny fixing it unless you opening the device is what caused the malfunction (for example, if you opened up your PS4 to replace the thermal paste on the CPU, and a few months later the hard drive dies, they cannot deny fixing it for you unless the defect was in the CPU).

This is a fairly new law though

She brought me to her iMac and plugged in her phone. It opened up iTunes which said iTunes had to be updated to continue. When it brought you to apple's iTunes page, it said the computer was too old to accept the upgrade.

I tried for over 30 minutes and there absolutely was no way to get anything off her phone onto her iMac. Yeah it was a fairly old iMac but it ran things just fine and used to have zero issue with her doing that. I honestly don't know how anybody puts up with bullshit like that.
