Its on EA Access/Premier. If you really only want to play the SP mode may as well subscribe to that instead. I think Access gives like 10 hours, which should be more than enough to finish the SP mode, unless they gate it somehow.

It's really OK if you make the Imperials actually cartoonishly evil instead of inclusive and relatable. The difference between the factions shouldn't be the color of flightsuits and a preference for leather.

The modern canon has pivoted slightly in terms of how the Empire's bigotry is presented - instead of being virulently sexist and racist, they've leaned more toward pure xenophobia/speciesism - humans of all genders and skin phenotypes present....but no aliens.

That depiction is fine and still drives home the terror of racist totalitarianism. It's Star Wars, we love the giant dog ape man and the little green puppet, and the Empire thinks they are untermench. That's reason enough they're baddies.

It does not have to be literally Nazi/Alt Right race-based prejudice in space to work, and honestly seems way on-the-nose. What even is an "Asian" in the GFFA? Without the economic motivation that helped midwife our modern "black vs white" racial dynamic- subjecting other humans to chattel slavery, would they have a reason to care much if another human is dark complected with textured hair? "Humans, with all their phenotypical variations" in one group and "aliens" in another is sufficient to sell them as heels.

That plus the blowing up planets.

Recent events tell us that people need constant reminding that Nazis are bad, that Nazis shouldn't be relatable as anything but parable, and that Nazis do not discriminate in being discriminatory. Gays, blacks, Chewbaccas--they hate everyone equally and eventually homogenize themselves down to the true fanatics and discard everyone else along the way.

The 1930's serials that live in the bone marrow of Star Wars were not effective because of nuance. If you want something to be evil, make it evil. It's been an empire of faceless terror with the occasional effete Nazi admiral from the beginning. To quote the philosopher Jello Biafra, Nazi punks gently caress off.

In addition to just being notably different, I'd feel much more comfortable playing a faction where the evil was cartoonish than this lame poo poo trying to make me play Amon Goeth laundered as a hipster so I can tap into my inner Rommel. They were all scum. There's nothing about the Empire that requires deep explanation or rehabilitation. This isn't very complicated though, just "relatable" characters that EA thinks will make the game more marketable.

Quite enjoying the various game modes even if the lack of a map is really loving annoying and makes it really hard to orient yourself. Also very sad no weapon customization but i've been stacking with 4 into hero's v villians the last few nights which is alot of fun. Who are like good hero's though for Hero v Villians? I've only played with a handful of characters

Impressions:

Anakin - force pull great for loving up positioning of other heros especially when they actually play together. I have no idea how his AoE damage pushy thing works and seems kinda lackluster in HvV but maybe good in normal modes where you can soak up damage on a point and clear it? Also passionate strike seems underwhelming or maybe i am just bad with it?

Chewbacca - fucks me up if if don't focus him with his bowcaster, but never played as him? I like lightsabers

Bobba Fett - accidentally played my first game as him after I was randomed and didn't know how to change characters at the time. Jetpacking is fun, but I'm not good enough at positioning to make it work. Very annoying to fight as his mobility makes it difficult to actually smack him with a lightsaber. ran into one BF who kited all four of us and spanked us for an entire game but he was very high level

Darth Maul - Glass canon direct DPS and feels like the Sith's rogue type character. I like to do a lot of damage. The blaster deflection skill is probably wasted in the HvV mode but im assuming is really good in standard multiplayer?

I have no idea how to use any of the good jedi, they all feel kinda underwhelming to me

Who is a good hero and what are the good skill builds?

Dooku is a very good lightsaber fighter who has an extra dodge, good stamina, and an ok force lightning stun. His L1+R1 ability lets him win swing spam battles handily. His debuff is whatever

Jedi Knight Luigi
Jul 13, 2009
Anakin’s L1+R1 is great in hvv when you just tap it quick instead of letting it build up (might actually be quick double-tap). That makes it equivalent to Luke’s L1+R1 and gets enemies to trip and fall to the ground where you can slice ‘em up. So it needs to be well timed for when enemies aren’t blocking.

It took me a long time to figure this out but you’ll do better with lightsaber heroes if you press the trigger at a cadence that’s in sync with their animation. So unless you’re doing Kylo’s fury or Dooku’s duelist, you do yourself a disservice by just mashing it. Blocking is huge too. If a noob is going ham on you while you’re blocking, you might be able to get a rhythm going where, while holding L2 to block, you tap R2 at a rhythm that just barely follows your attackers rhythm and can kill him easily while that happens.

Triple XP Wednesdays and Double XP Weekends! Leveling in Coop is so fast. And it's really fast to get weapons unlocked with the high enemy density.

Random Coop thoughts/tips:

Enemies come in waves, so Hero AOE and CC are REALLY good in this mode. Similarly Heavies and Enforcers are amazing with their middle abilities.

Attacking waves alternate when you're on defense, so get your group to defend. If enemies aren't coming at you, go to the other point.

For all the new players since it’s free, here’s a guide to all the trooper star cards and a good YouTube channel for tips about the game mechanics (because there are a lot)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF3R-j6VrIo

quote:

The passive cards (the top section) are the same for each trooper with one unique passive per class. Of the generic ones, Bodyguard is maybe worth it on the heavy but pretty crap otherwise, Marksman is fantastic if you have a slower firing weapon that you can consistently headshot with, and Bounty Hunter is good if you’re trying to lock down a hero in GA. Pretty much all the other passives are meh: Brawler doesn’t activate frequently enough to justify the slot, Resourceful is too marginal of an increase, Expert Weapons handling is fine but I prefer Marksman if I’m worried about weapon heat. Survivalist is decent I suppose. Of the class specific passive cards; the assault and heavy cards suck and the officer and specialist cards rule.

Now for the active cards. All of the “improves the default grenade” cards are good/great. Assault’s best cards are, hands down, Toughen Up and Smart Ion Grenade. Toughen Up makes your health constantly regenerate even when you’re getting shot, which lets you win a ton of fights simply by being able to duck into cover for half a second and then come back out with full health. Smart Ion Grenades pack more of a punch against players than you’d expect, have generous explosion and trigger radii, and will linger after being thrown like a trip mine for 6-10 seconds. Excellent against droidekas, turrets, heavy/infiltrator personal shields, officer bubbles, vehicles, etc. Upgraded Scan Dart is worth it if you’re not using Toughen Up out of fairness to the enemy team. Acid Launcher suffers from the fundamental problem that you’re replacing your (very good) grenade with what is essentially a grenade that kills people much more slowly while costing a star card slot. All of the Vanguard upgrades are good except the slug. I’ve never seen a single other person use the Flash Pistol ever, it’s the same slot as Toughen Up, and it’s just a pretty weak gun overall. The flash shot does make a very fun sound when you shoot it at least.

The Heavy probably has the best lineup of active star cards, they’re almost all solid. The Combat Shield becomes incredibly thick, which lets you mow down pubbies like a god (though watch out for ion grenades); Barrage is a perfectly fine if unexciting grenade launcher, great for replacing the shield if you want to focus purely on damage output; both Ion gadgets are very good in GA for walkers, fighters, speeders, etc. but essentially useless on infantry only phases (though the turret can work as a specific anti-officer turret tool); Explosive Sentry is hilarious and can be devastating if you have the high ground on them; Supercharged Sentry requires very good accuracy since the duration is so short but is probably the best hero-deleting trooper ability; Detonite Charge is great for booby trapping corners but its incredibly short throw range makes it pretty weak for most other uses; Mobile Sentry is kinda fun but you really notice the lower damage output.

Officer has some of the more interesting and unique ability star cards imho. Improved Battle Command is probably the one I would consider “best” as it’s really hard to beat immediate bonus health for yourself and anyone in front of you, although obviously the Improved Blaster Turret is always excellent. The Squad Shield can be single handedly game winning on GA, but can be a little harder to use effectively in other modes. The timing on Disruptor can be tricky to get a hang of, but once you do it’s an absolute game changer on close quarters maps. Recharge Command and Defuser are both criminally underrated; Defuser is amazing in the ship phase of CS and in GA for any team on offense, while Recharge Command gives your team a massive power boost that stacks with the health buff all your team’s other officers are using. Blast Command is ok, hilarious sometimes, but I find it’s harder for your teammates to take advantage of the ability than just giving them another grenade/shield/toughen up. Homing Shot is literally the worst star card in the game.

Infiltrator probably has the weakest set of ability cards. Personal Shield is the true standout, it’s basically a get out of jail free card that recharges. All of the Infiltration upgrades are pretty good and I think which one’s best comes entirely down to personal preference. Stinger Pistol used to be low-key great but DICE nerfed it because bad pubstomp hero players whined on forums about it until they caved, so now it’s just ok (worth noting that enemies tagged by the pistol are visible to you through walls, and is best used at mid-long range). The Binoculars card only upgrades the spot duration, which is ok but ultimately not worth a card slot. Trip mines are very funny but only work in areas with straight walls, which it turns out are kind of rare in Star Wars. Finally the Repulsor Cannon is super finicky and almost never seems to work right but I’ve been told that they’re apparently useful at knocking down heroes.

If you're fighting a hero one on one as a soldier and they aren't incredibly bad at it then you're pretty much hosed. The issue with standing still and blocking shots as a hero is more that you become a open target for anyone not directly in front of you, so your teammates can just shoot them in the back. As for grenades, they have to drop their block to dodge so you can one-two them that way, although you'll only get a few shots in.

At this point in the game's life most heroes are going to be grabbed by people who decided to play Darth Maul instead of attending college so the best way to counter them is to stick with teammates and hope for the best.

Oftentimes the best option when facing down a hero is to turn and run. Only engage them if you have multiple teammates helping you. Heroes are faster but if you’re an assault or recon you can use your middle ability to increase your sprint speed, which can get you far enough away that the hero won’t chase (or they do and overcommit into your oncoming teammates). It’s also worth noting that not all heroes block equally well. Heroes like Obi-Wan and Dooku have excellent stamina, while more aggressive heroes like Grievous and Maul actually can’t block sustained blaster fire for long.

I'm finding it just to be really stompy. I assume that's just grouping though. If I play solo it doesn't matter if i'm topping the scoreboard, the team with groups of players working with eachother tend to win. When playing with my friends, we win something silly like 4/5 games. When playing solo, even if i'm topping the scoreboard, capping points and topping kills, I generally seem to lose most games.

I've gotten some good mileage out of throwing a grenade at my feed instead. Most of the time they seem to think you'll be throwing it at them and charge into you for a "free" kill. You won't murder them but you will chunk em.

My experience has been similar to most online combat games: run toward the shooting, pop off one or two shots and die. Over, and over, and over. Enemies are coming from all sides, all of the time. There's no front, no battle lines, just the mapmaker's obsession with "flow." And if you see a hero you are insta-dead.

I've been enjoying the single player campaign though. So much good work went into the look, sound and feel of the game.

Tbh there is a front line (e. In attack/defend matches), it is just spread out enough that you don't really see it. The TTK in the game is high enough that volume of fire matters more than the individual for pushes, so if you hang around teammates and move towards objectives with them then you're probably going to be alright.

Hell, you can sometimes contribute a lot by finding a chokepoint and just laying down fire on the empty door, ammo is infinite and people don't like walking right into lasers.

If you're an jetpack trooper you can also make entire squads of people hang out in the rear end end of nowhere trying to kill you rather than actually fight. I had five people running around trying to kill me for most of a supremacy match, which was incredibly funny.

Funnier when they think they've finally cornered you, then you just zoom over them and rocket their feet. :v:

Galactic Assault might be more up your alley then, it’s an attack/defend mode so there’s very clear battle lines and no ring around the rosie style capture points
