That's actually a pretty common morning conversation at Gencon.

I was thinking less "attacked with nasal strips" and more "suffocated with a pillow," but whatever. I think this dude is well beyond nasal strips, and BlackIronHeart was wearing headphones - to virtually no avail. The next night we made him sleep on the bathroom floor.

And I get it, I mean, I snore too. But when I'm in polite company, I use a CPAP machine. I think the only time I woke BIH up when we shared a room at PAXUP was when I apparently crashed into his foot hanging off the end of bed as I staggered back from the bathroom in the wee (see what I did there?) hours of the morning.

Holy hell after 25 years of wanting to go to this thing I'm finally doing it. Is there any kind of goon meetup for this? I know everyone will often be doing their own thing (I'll probably be spending half the con at the Battletech booth), but there seems to be some sort of community approach here and I'm curious.

Wow I am pretty stoked on your behalf, my fellow Goonerd.

And, oh, are there ever Goon meetups. Back like six years ago it was virtually impossible to actually get Goons together there, but thanks to the rise of GroupMe I would say not a single day goes by without at least one big coordinated something-or-other. Even Wednesday thanks to ... "SHOT WEDNESDAY"

It seems like most of the people in these threads are primarily into boardgaming (and drinking) but I also imagine Battletech has a strong following. Me personally, I am generally either auctioneering or otherwise hanging out at the Auction and like to flit in and out of other group gatherings to remind myself that I can talk to other hu-mans

Once you're there, don't be afraid to spam the GroupMe with how lonely you are. You might get to meet up with a goon to do something.

Then again, you might get to meet up with a goon and that's a terrible thing.

Oh ok, you likely did meet me, I remember meeting llor I think. I was on the far end of the table at the sportsbar so i didnt hear names too well.

And later yeah, I was knee-deep in For-Ex and don’t remember much. That game owns though and if you are looking for weird indie gamer cred, I will happily play it. It’s not so much fun as it is an experience in trying to determine how the butterfly effect works (although I and a few others enjoy it). I got brutally owned by a very simple play I didn’t see last time I got it on the table and it was great.

I believe part of why Gary Con's registration goes so well is because people feel bad about being mean to Caroline.

O.K. I guess I have no idea if she is involved in event registration but I remember her being all over the place on the Facebook group when I still paid attention

I'm considering buying For-Ex, so if someone wants to play it at Gen Con, I'm down for trying it.

Also, about Punch Bowl Social, when I went there last year, it was pretty crowded. We didn't have much of a wait for a table, but we were back in a corner away from everything and couldn't have bowled, shuffled, darted, or whatever else if we wanted to. That might have been Saturday night, though, so it could have just been the regular Indy crowd hanging out there.

No they haven’t, you just can’t transfer rooms anymore. You can still use someone else’s account and use your own card on their account, but they need to hold the reservation for the duration.

So both parties need to be comfortable with each other having real name/address. The credit card isn’t an issue because it only displays the last 4 digits anytime after the first entry.

All they did was prevent people from sitting on a room reservations and selling the booking to a complete stranger, its still really easy to do if you have a modicum of trust between the two parties, unless there’s something I’m not seeing.

With SPG the earliest you can book a room is something like 550 days in advance, not sure why it isn't an even year, but whatever. For gencon 2019 that put the earliest available time to reserve about 2 days ago. If you check that early, there are usually some straggler rooms that havent been reserved in the hotel blocks, but they are quite expensive, $350+ a night. What I do is use my reward points instead of paying cash money, usually you have to call and get them to book it for you and they are really confused as to why they heck you are booking a room a year and a half in advance. I figure the 50,000 points I spend are worth it to pay for the room and make it so I don't have to ever worry about the lottery. I used this method to get the Westin in 2016, the Le Meridian this year, and the Sheraton City Centre in 2019. I hosed it up last year but managed to get the pull out couch in a room one of my VIG friends had.
