Replaying original Tomb Raider on DOS and uh it's still a good game because it's basically Prince of Persia and built with a very concise set of rules. Also reminds me of Souls games because the level designers LOVE putting pits and boulders in areas you want to run through but should really slow the gently caress down.

Never noticed Lara was so ripped.

Also finished the original MechWarrior, a text adventure without one actual mech combat.

It's been 20+ years since I played it but I thought the story path on Mechwarrior required you to pick up some crew members and do at least a couple missions.

Nope, you're only required to fight the pirates to get the chalice at the end. It's actually more efficient to sell your starting Jenner as soon as the game begins, go through all the story beats, then buy a heavy mech and do the final battle. It's hard solo but the AI is pretty dumb and shows you their back often.

I was curious how much healthcare would cost at various levels of income and full time streamers who aren't millionaires like PewDiePie absolutely need to be tax savvy to survive. Donations aren't income and therefor not taxable so your healthcare tax credit can score you some (lovely) healthcare for less than a hundred bucks a month. Don't get in a car accident or anything but you can at least see a doctor for your carpal tunnel and migraines after playing Fortnite for 32 hours straight.

Twitch donations are independent contractor income so actually in the US they have to pay the self-employment income tax on it

I know Twitch has its own integrated system but there's got to be people with some backdoor paypal they just barely advertise.

But I guess the other income of being a popular streamer are free gifts and paid sponsorships.

Lol where the hell would you get the idea that they aren't taxed on their stream revenue? They are, and probably at a way higher rate than anybody with a normal old W-2 job

I didn't know Twitch tracked revenue internally, I thought they did it based on PayPal who file a 1099 automatically if you make over $20,000. But it's not a question of not paying, it's a question of what's actual "taxable income" and that's why I said the average full time streamer has to be really tax savvy.

As a self employed person you can write off the equipment you use, travel expenses, the space you work in, and continuing education. Streamers do a lot of giveaways and promotions, those are deductible. And the smart ones incorporate for further protections.

What kind of crime does the real yakuza do? I know the (American) mafia does extremely boring crime like laundering money through online poker, because boring crime is where the money is. I think the Sicilian mafia still does protection rackets, but then they actually protect the people who pay, making them basically the police

All the above. Protection rackets, money laundering, human trafficking, drug trade, realty, gambling, extortion, etc. Since Japan is so small and homogenous they do a lot of international business which gets imported back to Japan.

BREAKING: System Shock 2 still fun after 20 years.

Also Koudelka has been alright so far (I love two characters arguing over loving Byron and Alexander Pope) but the games use of prerendered environments makes Resident Evil look like a triumph. These maps are dark as poo poo and the camera change points will occur in spots you'd never expect like slightly off center you get a whiplash 180 degree camera spin.

Of course he had nothing but a constant stream of the worst the internet has to offer, which is pretty bad. You also have to remember he argued against and was in the crosshairs of gamer gate so he got to deal with those wonderful people too

I didn't like the guy based entirely on his public personality but when that British PC games journalist guy (can't be bothered to remember his name) publicly called him out on GameTrailers that was definitely a punching down moment. Fish wasn't a millionaire punching bag Molyneux or Cage, he was just some spaz from Canada.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Dark Souls. The lore is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Buddhist philosophy most of the lore will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Lothric's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Miura's literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the lore, to realize that they're not just funny - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Dark Souls truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Solaire's existencial catchphrase "If only I could be so grossly incandescent," which itself is a cryptic reference to Tolkien's Middle Earth epic Lord of the Rings. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Hidetaka Miyazaki's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. ?? And yes by the way, I DO have a Dark Souls tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Fluoride enhanced city tapwater is probably why I've never had a cavity no matter how poorly I take care of my teeth.

Anyway, I hit the Hydroponics Lab in System Shock 2 and the game has officially reached that point where it's no longer survival-ish horror and just a straight Doom clone against clunky monsters. Everything else about the game is still on point but just like Metal Gear Solid to MG1 & 2 it's crazy how every Shock game is just remaking the first beat by beat.
