It’s also good to remember, and I’ll absolutely yield to someone with more knowledge on this than I, that these statues and use of the battle flag aren’t that historical and were specifically brought into play to fight against a growing civil rights movement in the 20th century.

"Hm, I'm not sure that's true; I've got the internet right here though, let's find out!" the problem is much like Ricky, people with Extremely Wrong beliefs will always have another one waiting in the wings so it never ends. at least you can put the seed of doubt in them and see if you can't get them to some tiny degree of critical thought
