And though the supernatural dog dick universe is incredibly funny, and never stops being funny, it's genuinely not representative. Even people in those fandoms consider it fringe. The vast majority of it is would strike you as odd for completely different reasons. Like, inventing elaborate backstories for Transformers characters that make it hard for them to admit that they want to kiss each other, and 300,000 words later, they finally get to. That's a loving commitment.

Perhaps the strangest dimension is you're not supposed to actually make erotica that you would enjoy solely for yourself. That's somewhat tawdry. You are supposed to contribute to a communal body of erotica, so that everybody is paying in erotica, and then has a wealth of erotica to enjoy. It's proof that communism works, but only sort of.
