Moridin’s comment about serfs got me thinking (lol). Anyone know of any good books on the history of rampage killings? As far as I know actual old time serfs, who had a much tougher deal physically never killed their neighbors because their feudal lord or whatever was a dick to them. Seem like they were more inclined to band together and kill he lord than murder a bunch of random folk out of rage. Maybe their fill of random murder by burning witches and poo poo. I have read that even the poorest of peasant back in the day had a much greater sense of community and support than people generally feel in the US today. Constantly forcing people to move every few years for work, the pervasive media campaigns against organized religion or any other form of communal identity, economic pressures to force two-income households to reduce the amount of time parents spend with their children, etc. Is all part of this, too.

Certainly I agree that medieval serfs killed people all the time, but I expected it to be over things like stealing their poo poo, your neighbor hosed your wife, gave you a poo poo deal on your crops, you want to gently caress his wife, you think they are a secret cathar, ect. Not because you decide to take your rage out on whoever you can get your hands on nearby. very interesting that they have data on spree killings for way back then, gonna have to read some of that source, no question that overall crime and homicides are down from the 'good old days'
