this looks kind of bad: https://www.dallasnews.com/business/technology/2020/09/25/planos-tyler-technologies-confirms-ransomware-attack-in-software-hack/

there’s a lot of information up for grabs in this company’s products.

was hoping they might be funneling all the money they're clearly not paying for competent support staff into good infosec, but well here we are

yeah that was a fantastic thing to wake up to. we seem to be in the clear but the fact that they've always just casually installed bomgar services on all our tyler app servers after being explicitly told not to really rubs me the wrong way.

That's a heck of a dependency

idk... i guess it could be cpu/ram constrained instaed, with the extra updates? all i know is its super slow to interact with, even like logging into the web interface takes 10+ seconds just to show the "desktop"

Yeah tbh that's about right for a 10 year old Synology. Even my old 215j was slow as molasses in the web interface, but it served up files like a champ.

what is diskless

i mean it also serves as timemachine for backup so there needs to be storage on it

I think they mean a unit that comes without disks in it, for you to put separately purchased disks into once disk prices eventually maybe become reasonable again.
