And even that hypothesis is considered closer to tinfoil than truth, mainly because of the lack of actual evidence. By tenuous I mean "they have similar words for things" which as you may guess does not really speak directly to the hypothesis. FAUXTON fucked around with this message at 15:16 on Dec 2, 2019 |

Yeah it's almost certainly a skeeterborne illness prevention effort, between meningitis, zika, west nile, and all manner of lower-likelihood-but-worse stuff it's a lot easier to dump standing water than the alternative given the prevalence of bugchasing child abusers denying their kids medical care. The 1944 one was basically a test flight for the system, but the US took one home in 1946 and launched it from White Sands with a camera on it, resulting in the first pictures of the earth from space (as in technically above the Karman line):

Before you all get too drunk and despondent to read, keep in mind there's like a dozen factors unique to the UK that were pushing on that election, not least the fact that Labour itself was a party fracturing at the seams over brexit yet managed to pick as leader a guy that was not all that well liked even before the media started beating him with the ugly stick. Minor parties in the US are thoroughly ephemeral balls of vapor compared to the spoiler effect brexit leveraged against labour specifically. Corbyn's favorability is like -40 not including how people feel about him tonight. Bernie is like -3. The rest of the likely Dem field is less favorable than Bernie but still more than 20 points north of Corbyn. People voted on Corbyn, according what's coming out of the UK. That's not going on here for anyone other than Trump, and it's already flipped the house plus a bunch of state legislatures. The media's far more balkanized here and an attempt to smear Bernie won't go anywhere near as far. I ain't guaranteeing a bernie nomination or even a win, but if people are thinking Corbyn is a Bernie analogue, he's not, Labour is a radically different beast from the Dems, and Boris isn't in the midst of an impeachment which last I checked was enjoying a slim majority in public support.
