Someone brought up Iscar Matthias and its attendant retranslation a while ago and it made me think about Reeve (and Cait Sith) in the remake, and how they seem to be going all-in on showing Reeve more prominently as being "the good guy/voice of reason in the Shinra boardroom" from what we've seen so far.

Some people's stated problems with Cait were that he joins for no reason, the party has no reason to trust him, and the whole betrayal thing. With the recasting of AVALANCHE's role in the reactor explosion to be minimalised (although they absolutely did intend for it to be a big explosion, hence booking it out of the place) showing that SE isn't afraid of tinkering with plot points a little, might we see Reeve just... openly admit he's a high ranking Shinra employee but one who wants to help them, and the robot is plausible deniability? And then the inevitable betrayal is reworked to "someone hacked my robot cat/Tseng blackmailed me" or whatever?

Reeve went against Shinra in Before Crisis, when President Shinra was in charge. In FFVII he continues his dislike/distrust of President Shinra until his death. He sees Rufus Shinra as a true leader and happily goes along with his orders (spying on Cloud and co.) until Cloud goes missing after the events at the North Crater and he decides to save Barret and Tifa from execution instead.

Personally I hope they re-work the idea that Reeve is an "Inspire" who can breathe life into inanimate objects, not just Cait Sith, as was the original draft for the character.

Hell, I just wanna know why he rented a room at the Honeybee Inn for his parents, in order to spy on them(!)

I never knew that those 2 were his parents. Was that the same couple you meet earlier in that house where they're like "he brought us nothing but trouble when he was here but now that he's gone we miss him"?

Those people were Johnny's parents, weren't they?

One of the lines of dialogue in the Honeybee Inn scene mentions that their son is a high ranking Shinra official. That plus the Cait Sith doll strongly suggests they're referring to Reeve.

Jack B Nimble posted:

When you say low level, do you just mean not grinding? Because, like, dont you just level up if you get the xp? It's not like a western rpg where you can choose not to level.

Run away from all fights, the fights you can't escape from (and bosses) you need to kill two party members before killing the boss so only one character gets EXP, you need to cycle this character and your party frequently so nobody can level up too much. You're not allowed any character to go above Level 28 but back when I did it I set my own target of Lv30.

The real challenge is the No Materia aspect because without winning fights, you don't get money to buy attacking items. Selling old weapons and equipment as you upgrade is essential.

(Didn't get to play for long last night so now i'm at Nibelheim about to fight Lost Number)

Even Square don't know how many installments it's going to be but going by the original game it'll be 3 minimum, probably more than likely going to be 4 or even 5.

That's a big chunk of playtime per installment, not even factoring the expanded universe stuff they're likely to include as well.

Jessie will be a date. Her dad will have a voiced cutscene backstory that will never be referenced again. The Turks will have a two hour intro where they talk through their entire careers. After you dropping plate there will be an unskippable cutscene listing the names of the hundreds of thousands who died. Despite the anachronism, you'll meet Vincent in Midgar, and every time he talks it plays linkin park in the background. The game will end on a cliffhanger, but the cliffhanger will be the surprise announcement of Dirge of Cerberus 2.

Given what's been shown and the demo, my only real concern is that unless this thing sells enough to fund an entire department we won't see episode 2. :/

It's the game that FFVII fans have been wanting for decades. It's going to sell fuckloads.

This is what they've said, yes. It adapts the Midgar part of FF7 into a full 30 hour game, with new content on top of just expanding what was already there. They've added a ton to Midgar, apparently, with a lot more to do and explore. Their goal is apparently to not cut anything, while also expanding on what was there.

Think of it like the first season of a TV series or, like, a Star Wars "episode." It's intended to be a complete package with the next parts functionally as sequels.

I always thought it was weird how AVALANCHE decided the best time to blow up another reactor would be literally the day after blowing up the first one, during daylight hours with Shinra on full alert.
