On the one hand I'm excited because I loved Encanto and I'd enjoy getting to see more of the Madrigal family living their lives, but on the other hand it's so easy for a studio to lose track of what made the original film good when making a sequel (case in point: Ralph breaks the internet). Basically I'm just hoping they handle the sequels with the same amount of care that they made the original film with.

Holy poo poo, people are STILL complaining about CalArts style?! I thought this was some new drama, but it's the same old poo poo I thought was nonsense years ago. All four of those shows had just started airing when that complaint started being made and now they're all finished after multiple seasons, that's how long it's been passed around and it's sucked the whole time.

Reading a bunch of reviews the one throughline I’m seeing about Velma is is that it makes no compelling case for being a Scooby Doo show besides some winking references. I think I’m kind of coming around to that conspiracy theory that this show started life as something else before being forced to be a Scooby Doo property; every single review I’ve read so far goes out of its way to mention how the show either doesn’t feel recognizable to the SD universe in any way besides the references or the show specifically and almost contemptuously insults the elements of SD that are recognizable. Everything I’ve read really does make it sound like a show that really, truly hates its IP in a way that really does give credence to the idea that this started life as something else.

anyway, I found out it's actually a completely unrelated series from 2007 and it's frickin' incredible. I've only watched the first two episodes but I've never seen anything else put together like this.

If you're a fan of animation I recommend you try and watch it.

I remember the episode with Robin's doomed friendship with the amnesiac girl being very obviously anime.

There were a bunch of redesigns that didn't take. The Joker got a makeover where he lost his entire personality, all but ruining the adaptation of Mad Love. However the Scarecrow going from a gag villain to a skeletal preacher wearing a noose was genius.
