It's a shame a lot of the DCAU movies are inconsistent in quality.

Phantasm and Return of the joker are solid films. Then you have things like the Freeze movie, mystery of Batwoman, and the Brainiac attack film that are less so.

Brainiac attack is a weird one that uses all the DCAU character designs but the story is not in continuity with the DCAU, the characterization is wildly disparate and inferior, and all the major characters have been recast (for the worse) on top of it.

It plays on McCarthyism for its imagery but you're immediately supposed to sympathize with the defendants and recognize that the reason they're in there in the first place (the suicide guy who pivots to suing for a fat payday) is ludicrous but leads inevitably down a slippery slope of GOVERNMENT OVERREACH.

The Return of Captain Invincible is a fairly terrible movie made on too many drugs but it does begin with a great sequence where the WW2 superhero is railroaded by the McCarthy hearings by painting all his nazi fighting in a bad light because technically he was helping communists. Fairly sure some of those who worked on The Incredibles must have seen it.

Additionally the feature animation studios here in montreal all have no projects or only domestic canadian productions, and tv animation studios in vancouver are going through dramatic downsizing. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with the strikes because The Animation Guild is not on strike, so why the dramatic fall off in production?

6 months to a year ago was when all the big players were cutting their animation production and gutting their studios, wasn't it?

The AI Generated South Park Scam/Hoax has convinced me that there have been similar AI Startup Bros that we haven't heard about going around pitching these sorts of smoke and mirrors presentations to corporate boardrooms and convincing CEOs that turnkey AI Generated Animation (and more!) is right around the corner like driverless cars and giving all these easily impressionable, technologically illiterate, and often very dumb billionaires the idea that if they just hold out a little longer, they won't need to pay most of their workers anymore, instead of something more realistic (and still sad and depressing) like "you can pay fewer artists to touch up some AI plagiarized background art and thus get away with laying off, say, 75% of your background artists..."

This dovetails pretty closely with the recent attempt to shift to just naming a few "creators" instead of specific writers and directors and showrunners because these executives with CEO brain pumped full of AI hopium (and copium) are envisioning nothing less than a future where they only have to pay no more than a small room full of people to handle "generating" all aspects of a show with giant corporate mainframes... basically what Space Jam 2 warned us about :

I kinda feel this used to be a lot more common than it is these days? Especially back in the era where everything was 26 episodes?

The movie is basically a completely different story (and the most hilariously violent PG-13 movie you might ever see) from the TV series, so aside from the music (and gorgeous animation) it doesn't have the same appeal.

There were a few hour-long direct to video compilations of the TV series that were as terrible and useless as such compilations usually are, and I believe they've been almost completely forgotten.

I mean they had the earth birth a giant stone eternal and left it sticking out of the ocean then had another eternal visit earth and part the clouds and yell at everyone on earth and that seems like it would be pretty earth-shattering even in a universe used to a ton of weird stuff but it has gone unremarked upon so far (unless they're pulling a fast and furious and it's gonna be another decade before the movies "catch up" to the events of Eternals)
