I haven't been convinced that he absolutely believes that stuff. I am convinced that his base of boomer Democrats absolutely do believe that bullshit, so they have to be pandered to. It's part of the weenie centrist message thing.

That has been a bit of the problem in this primary - Democrats like all of the candidates, so they're doing dumb poo poo like trying to figure out who *others* would vote for. So Biden's doing the whole "vote for me, I can attract centrists!" routine, even if as Obama's VP, he never saw cooperative Republicans.

A sad thing about elections is that as currently constructed, you can never really tell voters the truth. Just variants of happy talk.

I got texted by the warren campaign today. Told them I was voting for Bernie and when they sent follow up texts blocked the number. That seemed odd as I’ve never done anything for or donated to her campaign

The campaigns tend to buy lists of phone numbers and past voter records, then blast out mass texts to them. Your return texts were then likely automatically fed into robotic responses to try to get you to donate/volunteer. Same general way that you get random emails from campaigns. Any time you see a PRESIDENT TRUMP WANTS TO MAGANATE SPACE, WOULD YOU SIGN HIS BIRTHDAY CARD FOR HIM?? type of ad, it's all about mining phone numbers and email addresses.

That's how I, a non-Berner, get random texts from "Bernie For America" numbers asking if I'm with Bernie or not. They likely bought my poo poo from some roll of democratic phone numbers.

Also just seeing attempts at accounting for the "political schizophrenia" of some of the voting populace. (IIRC there was a tweet from some rally with a dude who was torn between Sanders and Bloomberg for some reason).

The simple accounting is that average American voters just don't give a poo poo about civics and politics.

A typical voter isn't your Online, twitter-using, article reading kind of high-information voter. So, that leads to a lot of Cult of Personality voting, with people voting for candidates that literally visually look right to them, or the candidate that they "trust" the most, or the candidate that got a spotlight during the local news broadcast they just so happened to watch at some time. In a lot of cases, it has very little to do with policy preferences, because they don't have a policy preference!

It's an interesting theory that the electoral cake is already baked now, at this minute, because of the saturation of Donnie Brainstem everywhere. But, prediction punditry is inherently bad, so be skeptical of all explanations of everything.

Completely outside of my usual posting topic, the star Betelgeuse might blow up into a supernova sometime soon! Or not. Maybe. They're not really sure!

https://twitter.com/betelbot/status/1226583476222275584

From what I gather, Betelgeuse is a weird star that gets brighter/dimmer in cycles, which scientists have been tracking. But lately, it has been dimming below its previously observed lows. That could be a sign that all of its fuel is about to be used up, leading to a kaboomey supernova! But scientists have no idea how long that dim-to-supernova cycle actually takes. Could be hours, could be years! Who knows!?

If it does happen, we won't all be dead (unfortunately), but we'll have a second moon in the sky for a while.
