I, Butthole posted:Hey friendos, do you have any particularly inspirational/insightful quotes from directors you could share? I'm starting to figure out some classroom materials for my new job teaching film and need some film-related wall stuff to hang around, and want to break away from infographics and junk. "The thing I find about the movie industry is that 99 percent of the people are absolute scum. They're horrible people, they really are. Very nasty killer rabbits who hate movies. But the other 1 percent are really the greatest, most wonderful people in the world." – Lloyd Kaufman "Perhaps it sounds ridiculous, but the best thing that young filmmakers should do is to get hold of a camera and some film and make a movie of any kind at all." – Stanley Kubrick

Such striking compositions, rich art design, and visual style. The downbeat 70s, slow heady dreaminess may not be for everyone but perfectly it targets my stimulation circuits.

therattle posted:Have any of you watched Small Axe, the Steve McQueen series? We have watched three of the five (The Mangrove, Lovers Rock, and Education), and they are amazing. McQueen must be the best British director around (or one of them at least), and he is dealing with a subject matter that is evidently close to his heart and that of his extraordinary cast, so you get a real sense of depth, feeling, commitment and and sincerity, executed with his skill and craft. The Mangrove bears numerous parallels to the Trial of the Chicago 7 (which I liked), but it better in pretty much every respect. They are must-sees, I think. I haven't heard of Small Axe 'til now, but it sounds right up my street. Thank you for the recommendation!

Tom Cruise on a rope, then a chopper, then a train. Tom Cruise on a motorbike to the max. Tom Cruise plays pool with Paul. Tom Cruise runs a brothel. Tom Cruise takes a break. Keanu, too.
