I like the music in World but it really reaches another level when you have your own playlist and a guitar solo or breakdown or chunky-rear end death metal riff lines up perfectly with an anjanath roar

The Wirebug changes the entire pace of Rise. Monsters attack faster because I can dodge faster. Areas are more vertical because I have the means to climb hills, mountains, buildings, cliffs, and bluffs.

It’s freeing, and it makes Monster Hunter: World — barely three years old and the current gold standard for accessible monster hunting games — seem archaic and slow by comparison.

Ran some tutorial quests this morning both docked and handheld- having not played the demo I am very surprised how well everything is running, figured it would be a little choppy, though I am just in the starting areas. Coming from World/IB I expected the graphic quality to take a serious hit but they're really not bad.

Already with like 2 missions knocked out I absolutely love the wirebugs and dog, they both feel so precise and control well. What good additions.

Wrapped up the 3rd special license quest this morning and man is Almudron a dick. I've only fought it twice, but both times it gave me much more trouble than I thought it would using lance.

Maybe it was cause I was playing before I fully woke up but I was having a tough time discerning where, aside from the head, I should be hitting it. Half of the hits around the neck seemed to bounce off and I swear some of the hits around the tail were bouncing too. Any tips?

Also, is it still safe to assume for lance that raw > elemental? Saw a few people on reddit say that that's kind of out the window now but haven't really played around with any elemental weapons yet.

Is there a go-to HR armor set for lance?
Diablos and Barroth are the obvious ones for guard/offensive guard purposes but I haven't felt it necessary to go all in on defensive skills with what enemies are currently in the game.

I've been using a mixed set of the two to hit guard 3, offensive guard 2, and then the rest is in attack boost, affinity, etc. from anjanath and ingot leggings. Currently grinding out decos to fill the rest out.

Grabbed my first WEX 2 talisman over the weekend and it's this guy :woop: Definitely nice versatility, but looking at 3 slot decos feel like I'll just end up throwing a 2 slot in there.

What’s the current go-to armor for great sword. I currently have a bunch of random stuff that just so happens to have a few of the _ Draw skills, but certainly there’s better.
As far as full armor sets Goss Harag and Barioth are the most obvious, however they are both missing out on the focus skill and don't have the slots to hit 3/3. Also neither set has attack boost. That said, you could nix AB entirely and just do a mix of those two, plus the anjanath chest for 2 focus and it will be pretty solid.

Right now I'm running (I believe) close to meta for the goss GS:

Zinogre helm
Anja chest
Rath bracers
Anja belt
Ingot leggings

and I lucked into a WEX 2 with 3/1/1 deco slots. This lets me hit 7 AB, 3 focus, 3 WEX which is generally what you want to aim for. I think people who are using the narga GS swap out ingot for rajang leggings.

The charm you have will largely dictate the rest of your armor, so if you don't have a WEX charm the skalda belt covers you for 2 points but you are short a couple deco slots.

I'm debating between Greatsword (Did ~6-7 missions, really liked it but just felt like you're trying to get TCS all day long), Lance (feels like a more natural change, but may be too similar to Gunlance), Switch Axe (Played early game in World, did a couple of missions in Rise and I mostly know it...just need to relearn it), LBG and HBG, because I want to learn a ranged weapon finally after avoiding it like the plague.

Help me pick a secondary weapon goons!
For versatility (and trivializing a lot of matchups) I would go with a bowgun, but I think learning the greatsword makes you legitimately better at this game since it forces you to really learn monster movesets, strategically use traps, etc. Also I don't think anything in this game is cooler than when you perfectly tackle through a hit and land a TCS.

Man, for how much of a monster it is in the main games though Deviljho is a loving jobber here, it has no health at all, I'm generally able to beat it in four turns and that's far quicker than I can beat Bageljuice.

Was thinking him as well, but I kind of feel like having another rider would work better as it would offer more opportunities/flexibility for double attacks, no?

Also could just be imagining it but I feel like rider party members are more likely to heal then hunters. Any time I was teamed up with a rider if we dropped below half HP it seemed like guarantee we got a potion/life powder. Kyle played it REALLY loose in the last few hours and I found myself having to heal him a handful of times, though maybe that was more about him being a bow user and insisting on using charge at every possible moment.

Another one jumping back into MHW after winding down on Rise/Stories. I finally finished the Ice Borne story and made it to the guiding lands which I'm enjoying in a boss rush kind of way, I guess. Was able to take out raging brachy after a few attempts and it was totally exhilarating- definitely the coolest fight I've had in a monster hunter game as I really started learning the moveset and saw where I could do full TCS punishes, etc.

At this point I'm happy with my GS gear, masters touch/2-piece R. Brachy and the lightbreak sword, and now I'm just on deco farming. As far as endgame enemies should my next goal be Safi? Alatreon? I know Fatalis is going to take some time and I'm only at MR 90 so it'll be a little while. Cause I don't really play online I figure Safi is going to be a hassle but I'm under the impression I can slog through it on my own?

Also, on a whim I decided to check out sticky LBG. I'm really happy I waited until endgame to do this cause it's so braindead easy that I absolutely would have never learned even the basics of this game, otherwise. It just feels like cheating it's incredible.

Elemental rapid fire is also very good vs Safi. Any element works as it takes the same damage from any element. Above is a video of someone using the Beotodus gun, to give you a good idea of what to build for. The best elemental set is actually also the Aquashot built for water damage along with Safi armor. Which doesn't help you in your quest to actually kill Safi for the first time lol.

If you are soloing, I'd use the garuga sticky to break the wings and back and then switch to elemental lbg and focus on the back legs to do decent damage.
Awesome, thanks for the rundown! I haven't played with non-sticky/spread too much but now I'm feeling motivated.

I'm shocked how easy some of these LBG sets are to put together and how cheap the decos are. Kind of refreshing after playing GS and lance for so long where you NEED specific skills, then on LBG you just need to make sure you have one or two things and one of them is always spare shot.

So how is Rise almost a year out? MH:W is one of my top 5 played games of all time, but the demo of Rise didn’t really grab me.
I don't think Rise is bad, but it just didn't land for me the same way World did. While I enjoyed the wirebug stuff and palamute-riding at first, the hyper mobility and opportunity to just zip out of any danger kind of rubbed all the magic off of combat for me and everything in Rise just ended up feeling weightless after a bit.

Most of the weapons I used didn't feel as heavy or punchy compared to MHW. I thought maybe it was an issue of playing on the Switch and tried the demo out on Steam, but swinging a greatsword or jabbing a lance just feels so much better to me in World compared to Rise. Silk bind attacks were also interesting for a bit, but with certain weapons I realized I was just waiting for openings to spam them nonstop and not really using the weapon to its fullest, otherwise.

I also didn't find the levels in Rise were anywhere as immersive or fun to explore. That said I am a fan of horrible mazes like the ancient forest and genuinely like the busywork of chasing scoutflies and picking up tracks so idk maybe my brain is just melted.

It seems counterintuitive cause it's so slow but I would say greatsword- once you learn his moveset he'll basically walk into your TCS's and you can easily break both legs to make him slide all over the place like a goober. Same goes for narga.

I feel like I can't judge CB stuff until I actually try it in-game since there's so many interlocking pieces of the moveset, but this was pretty underwhelming overall.
