The Royals offense is not good. But they have 3 shortstops on their infield and that literally won them the game today.

First, Mondesi knocks a ball down that easily would have scored the Manfred Man if it made it through the infield, then Bobby Witt makes a diving stop and throws (kind of horribly to be honest lol) home to keep the game scoreless.

It’s helps when you’re playing one of the single most inept offensive teams in modern history.

Seriously, there are currently 4 players in the lineup that had trouble hitting in AAA and have starting roles on a major league team. Yu Chang belongs on a major league field as much as I do, Andres Gimenez and Oscar Mercado couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat, and Bobby Bradley has so many holes in his swing that he’s nearly an automatic out. Throw in Steven Kwan, who barley logged time in AAA and wasn’t exactly lighting it up in Akron last year and you have the makings of a dreadful offense.

The worst thing is they are utterly wasting a generational pitching staff. 5 young, amazing starters getting zero offensive support is a great way to blow their prime years. The front office had the means to sign Schwarber or Conforto or anyone else and simply chose not to, and that’s embarrassing. They knew they had a suspect offense at best and decided to pocket the money instead of actually signing major league talent

The fact that his given name is Constance McGillicuddy makes those pictures even better somehow.

He was also essentially the forefather of the tank and the rebuild - both in the mid 10s and again in the mid 30s, he sold off his star players to pay bills because attendance was down. The A’s have seemingly always been working under this model, a tradition that continues to this very day!

He may very well suck but the Cubs didn't even give him the opportunity to prove it or not. Meanwhile Heyward, who we know sucks, keeps hoovering up starts.

Frazier is 27, has former big prospect pedigree, and the Cubs had him under control through 2024. Absolutely zero excuse not to give him a prolonged look, particularly when we suck poo poo this year anyway.

Cleveland should absolutely try and pick him up. Get him back to the organization he started with and try to get something out of him. It’s not like we’re drowning in outfield prospects right now anyway

Yeah okay, I just noticed Cleveland's played 6 less games than Minnesota and got confused. The lockout feels like 2 years ago already.

We’ve had an insane amount of rainouts. I think we have 3-4 doubleheaders coming up before the all star breaks, 1 of which is with the twins next week which STILL puts us at 6 less games played than them.

Lol

What? Stevens was literally a throw in to offset a little payroll. Brandon Phillips was the centerpiece of the deal, Cliff Lee was the mid-level pitching prospect with a lot of upside, and Grady Sizemore was the “who?” lottery ticket.

Glad to see Cleveland is just as active at the trade deadline as they were in the offseason. Team is 1 game out of the division race and they address nothing, while the Twins pretty much fill every hole they needed to.

We needed a starter, a bullpen arm, and a catcher, and we got nothing. I’m holding out zero hope for the last 15 minutes.

Has there been any studies on which teams got owned the hardest by the rule changes? I feel like Cleveland had this insane run of pitchers coming through that suddenly fell off a cliff when the rules changed.

I don’t know about the rest of the team for certain, but James Karinchak ABSOLUTELY was done in by it. He went from an unhittable strikeout machine throwing 99-101, to falling completely apart in the span of a few weeks. He couldn’t throw strikes, stopped relying on his fastball, and pitched his way out of the majors in less than a month. He’s just now coming back around but he’s basically the mop-up option that can rarely be trusted in a close game.

Bieber got hurt, Plesac regressed to what we thought he was, Civale got hurt, and everyone else was traded off. Our starters went from off the charts superhuman time merely really good, but the bullpen (besides Clase) tanked. Then again, maybe giving Bryan Shaw the ball every goddamn day isn’t the greatest of ideas.

The greatest announcer in the history of American professional sports, hands down.

There never had been nor never will be anyone who is better at painting a picture with his words. Even his silence tells a story. That Koufax perfect game clip is the perfect example. You felt like you were there in the stadium listening to him tell the story, getting every detail and yet never saying too much.

I always get choked up at the 1988 World Series “In the year of the improbable…. The IMPOSSIBLE has happened” call, but his call of Jack Morris’ 1984 no hitter was sheer perfection. Morris struck out the last batter, and after Garigiola called the strikeout, Vin let the crowd do the talking. For 30+ seconds, it was just cheering and crowd noise, finally punctuated by a solemn “And then there were none”. He knew exactly when to say nothing, and knew how to find the perfect words at the perfect time.

He was a master of the craft and a true ambassador of baseball. RIP to the greatest

Zach Plesac is a big dumb baby and probably needs to be traded or non-tendered this winter. This is the second time this year he temper-tantrumed his way to the IL.

Nothing like having 2/5 of your rotation going on the IL with a month to go in a pennant race! All hope lies in …. Xzavion?

There is no reason on Earth that Andres Gimenez should be hitting 7th in the Guardians lineup.

Aside from “Tito Francona demands the lineup alternate L//R at all times”.

There also should be no reason that Myles Straw is in the lineup period. He is an utter black hole.

They’ve been playing on borrowed time ever since the deadline. They DESPERATELY needed offense and refused to do anything, now they are stuck with a menagerie of guys who couldn’t get on base if their life depended on it. The catching situation is abysmal, the outfield isn’t much better (Steven Kwan is a decent guy to have as a compliment to two other power hitting outfielders but not as the “star” of your outfield), and outside of Josh Naylor and Amed Rosario, there’s very little offense on the right side of the infield or the bench.

Also, Tito, if you could stop running Bryan Shaw out there that would be great. “He can pitch every day!” Isn’t a positive if he sucks out loud. I realize he was great for us 6 years ago but you simply can’t rely on him.
