Whether these teams fell into some bad luck at the wrong time, were too injured to go on, or forever riding in that continuously running tank with no end in sight, there is one thing they all have in common: These teams are dogshit garbage.

By pure mathematics, the Rockies, Mets, and Nats have all hit their elimination numbers at this point. The Rockies are basically completely out; the Mets and Nats could still hypothetically make the Wild Card, but making up 7.5 and 9.5 games in September is one hell of a tall order.

I was DH on my highschool team so I practiced contact juggling like this every time our team was in the field. I eventually bought a 4" acrylic ball that is a better size but its a cool as hell hobby. Fun fact: David Bowie did not do the crystal ball thing in Labyrinth. They brought in Michael Moschen to do it as a stunt hand.

Cardinals sucked!! Going down the cardinals roster, basically every single player underachieved to some degree. Jordan walker came closest to being what I had hoped for and Paul Goldschmidt was still good, just not MVP good. Contreras definitely picked things up in the back half of the season, it was still a bad signing but I am happy for him, he showed resilience and fortitude. The teams beat writers have been hedging and hemming and hawing on whether he’ll be catching next year so I guess he’s in line to be slapped down by management lol. Poor guy. Arenado was disappointing this year, pretty streaky and his defense was a lot worse than usual. The messy outfielder situation ended up being exactly as horrible as I thought, Carlson was hurt and bad and then O’Neill was hurt and slightly less bad but still bad. Neither of these oafs should be in line for any chance at starting next season. Walker, nootbaar, edman. The end. Gorman was ok I guess, he was a dinger machine but didn’t hit consistently or take walks which is kind of the book on him. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him or Brendan Donovan get traded in a deal for a pitcher. The pitching was an absolute nightmare. Wainwright hosed up and should not have come back this season. Mikolas was bad. Flaherty was bad. Jake woodford was bad. Matz was bad, then good, then hurt, what a surprise. Montgomery was good at least. At this point I think you can put mikolas down in pen as a starter next season but otherwise who knows. Matz is a question mark and all of the AAA guys they brought up to replace Matz/Monty/flaherty have been too inconsistent to count on. Hoping they try to sign one of the overseas guys. Marmol and mozeliak are both going to be brought back so I don’t see any point in bitching about the piss poor job they both did this year. Mozeliak at least had a track record of making ok moves at the deadline when necessary on top of the obvious history of winning seasons, but this year was such an embarrassment, poo poo has to be done differently. Marmol was totally exposed this season, everybody thought he was a patsy yes man hire from the start and guess what, everybody was right.

The E Club has gained new members today -- the White Sox, of course, but also the San Diego Padres, who are still in the Wild Card running (if an increasingly long shot at 8 games back) but have now been knocked out of division contention. While I recognize that it's probably painful as hell, I'd appreciate hearing from any Dads fans what the hell happened this year. The Padres are by far the best-looking of the teams currently in the E Club, with a run differential almost 100 higher than anyone else currently eliminated from division and around 70 over either of the two teams ahead of them as runners-up to the Dodgers.
