Our homostruggle will never be over until every Christian marriage is annulled and anyone who won't recant the Faith is forced to consummate a gay incestuous marriage with the family dog.

On the "Gay Marriage Changes Hearts and Minds Toward Acceptance" front, my superreligious born-again conservative Christian father, who started going to Exodus ministries and lapping up all of their horrible bullshit years ago when I told him I was dating a dude kind of maybe implied that gay marriage isn't the end of the world this Christmas. He told me about having dinner with a classmate of his from way back in his MBA days, and the guy lives in California and married his partner as soon as he was able...then said "It seemed like it really meant a lot to him to be able to do that."

Thus, I am now a gay marriage in Texas opponent, because the second it passes my parents will be on me to get married just like they're turning up the pressure on my baby sister to marry her boyfriend and start pushing out kids.

I'll be damned if I'm gonna deal with that: Greg Abbot for Governor! :clint:

My parents have an absurd obsession with passing on our genes. To the point that one of the things my dad said to me when I told him I was dating a guy was that he is so smart and I'm so smart that he wanted to see how smart my kid would be.

I wasn't sure what to say to that, so I didn't.

One of the most stupid/sweet moments in my first holiday out was my old rear end aunt who seems to have a mental tic where she cannot have a conversation with a young adult without mentioning having kids telling me 'well a baby you get from Asia is just as good as any other kind of baby to have'. Thanks crazy aunt :unsmith:

Even if the kid isn't biologically either of yours, the environment that a couple of people who care and are actively involved will foster a more promising future.

You don't have to convince me, buddy. When I'm ready to have kids it's adoption all the way. There are too many unwanted children out there, so why make another one when I can make a difference to one who exists already?

Also, if I have a biological son, you know he's probably just going to be some homo, and then I'm going to be the creepy old dad who hits on my son's hot young boyfriends and I'll be damned if I let that happen to me.

If you adopt, you can't really be sure what orientation the kid will have. Make peace with being a dilf now.

Also congrats on your dad being slightly less terrible, it's another example of the idea that nothing cures homophobia like knowing a gay person (though of course that's sadly not sure-fire).

Hey guys, anti-equality is actually creating jobs, as the State of Utah prepares to spend $2 million to bring in outside legal help for their appeal. I would love it if Utah ended up being the state that ends bringing gay marriage to the entire nation.

It seems like it took forever for an "emergency" but Utah as of a few minutes ago has officially requested an emergency stay from Sotomayer.

Edit: So from the request Utah is arguing that an emergency stay is warranted because if they get married and then the courts void their marriages they will be irreparably harmed financially and emotionally. :psyduck:

tl;dr Windsor was not about the right to same sex marriage so none of that equal protection stuff matters and you must defer to Baker. :qq: There is also a section on :biotruths:.

quote:

Another indication of a good prospect of reversal by this Court is that the district court's decision squarely conflicts with this Court's decision in Baker v. Nelson

..

even if the logic of Windsor (or other decisions of this Court) suggested an opposite outcome--which it does not--there is at least a reasonable prospect that a majority of this Court will elect to follow Baker, because of its precedential value if nothing else.
This is certainly an opinion someone could hold.

Utah probably wouldn't even be able to void the marriages; if there's one thing that the courts have been consistent on, it's that any marriages legally entered into remain valid even if you cannot legally enter into the marriage any more (Article 1, Section 9, yo).

Genius. If that actually happens all you have to do is insinuate "duck call" is gay slang for something ridiculous. The backpedaling will be glorious.

I was almost confused to see these two events next to each other because the Boy Scouts' new policy prevents people from promoting causes while wearing their scouting attire. That includes gay pride parades.

BSA's new policy is still pretty offensive even though they do allow gay Scouts to join. They still prohibit adult gay scouts from holding leadership positions. "We're totally cool with you being gay, but once you turn 18, think of the children and get out!" :qq:

For what it's worth, hopefully that will change now that admitting gay scouts hasn't cost them a significant amount of support from churches.

What is it about "walking around in the outdoors and learning to tie knots and not get eaten by bears and poo poo" that lends itself to extreme right wing Christian fundamentalism, exactly? Pretty much every scouting organization (barring the Girl Scouts, which are awesome and progressive) seems to tie the two together and I really don't see why there would be any overlap at all.

From the beginning to the present day, Boy Scouts have been organization deeply tied to military service and american patriotism. Becoming an Eagle scout gets you an immediate rank of PFC.

Scouting as a concept is older than the BSA and its impetus has nothing to do with Mormonism or its goals. The LDS church's relationship is as a sponsor that really, really likes the organization.

The "Campfire" thing, at least around here (Austin), is virtually a hippie cult, so I wouldn't count them either. (It's not really a "cult" I guess but it's stereotypically "Austin".)
