Pornographic Memory posted:Theoretically the F-35 is more versatile. The F-22 is the best at shooting down planes we will never fight. The F-35 though has some plane shooting capability that we will never use as well as the ability to drop bombs on mud huts, while being based on air fields or carriers so not mud hut is safe. Also what Monkey Fracas said. Yeah. If the US wants to beat up a third rate minor power they can just have a carrier barf out enough F-35s to blot out the sun and laugh at the three planes whichever country they want to bomb manages to get into the air before they get freedomized.

Goons love the a-10. Nothing wrong with that, it looks badass. But I find this save the a-10 campaign pretty funny. Like yeah, we unironically believe in the year 2015 that the best future CAS jet needs to be built around the gau-12 again. Flying straight towards your target at low altitude and using a chain gun over a multitude of weapons that presents a safer approach for your $150,000,000 airplane.

is an anti-tank/CAS plane even necessary? between helicopters and being able to mount hellfires on almost anything it seems like the best 'CAS' plane is a AC-130 or B-52 with a massive smart bomb loadout depending on what's needed

Flying straight towards your target at low altitude and using a chain gun over a multitude of weapons that presents a safer approach for your $150,000,000 airplane. you are so wrong about so much, let me help you, you nerd. 1) Products get cheaper to manufacture the longer you produce them since you can improve efficiency in the production process and no longer have to pay for the R&D. it's like, I bet you could build an a-10 for like $20 and a case of taco bell tacos. 2) The future of war (for like the next 20-50 years anyway) isn't all laser guns and cloaking planes and teleporters, no matter what the us military tries to tell you. The future of war is us shooting a bunch of muslims with AK's, or maybe North Korea. Either way we don't need some fancy laser plane, just a bunch of fuckoff huge bullets that put the fear of allah into the people it's shooting at. Enter the GAU-12 3) the A-10 is like the trench shovel of planes, it's not sophisticated, fancy or elegant. But it's useful, durable, and versatile.

Traditionally (i.e. Harrier era) you wanted to be able to use a forward, improvised, camouflaged airbase because the Soviet air force had just bombed the gently caress out of and/or nuked all your actual airbases.

Seems like making your monster less impressive would take away from the suspense
