I don't see myself using fade attack ever as adept, since the style loses the backwards hop. I feel like hopping to one side or another isn't as useful when most monsters are still effectively right in front of you after the hop haha

Well maybe I'll use it on groups of little baby monsters, since it is a quick, strong horizontal slash.

Edit: actually, fade slash builds a lot of gauge & art, isn't as slow as I thought, and you can combo into it with A, so it's actually pretty good. Maybe start combos with it on a stationery monster, or in groups of small ones.

Actually fade slash is amazing, because if you press R after it you'll do a rushing attack and if you press R again you'll go straight into the three-hit attack. You can deal great damage with this and keep combos up (since you can fade slash after pretty much any attack) :3:

Nah, mods can just set it up for free. If somebody pays the 5bux to avatar-ify it, it's on the servers and anyone can use it as a tag.

No but it's easy to button spam your way into a weird combo but if you've played IG you know what that's like. Anyway the DB combo that is typically always good is in demon/archdemon do A X X repeat. This is the double slice into spin to win into the reset slash and you repeat. You can do a single slash before the combo too which means it works off adept dash or aerial slash. You can also do A X X X repeat if you want an extra set of slashes before spinning.

There's a bunch of other all right combos and other stuff but if you just wanna spam a single combo that's the one. For easy buildup to archdemon you can also activate demon mode and use the special button to do a spin for fast build up.

When poo poo goes down use devil's dance and if you want to hit heads in interesting spots just spam A. But yeah people just spin to win if you just wanna mess with the weapon without being all PRO about it.

I'm sure it's obviously not necessary, but I remember in Tri I think you had charm seeds or whatever and people were trying to manipulate the game so they had certain charms available to them and this kind of reminds me of that situation.

Interestingly, this is because you had an RNG seed that determined what charms you could discover. Some of these seeds had a fairly limited pool and it was straight up impossible to get most of the best charms if you had that seed. The bad part was, instead of something sane, your RNG seed was set at character creation and was permanent. The only way to tell what seed you had in any reasonable frame of time was to send the fishing boats out a bunch of times and plug your results into an algorithm some guy made that could narrow down your possible RNG seeds. You would then decide if you wanted to make a new character and try again if you had a bad seed. If you didn't know about this or didn't bother you could've found out 100 hours in and been hosed.

Of course most people never got to the point where charm min maxing actually mattered but still.

This was due to the game having a bug where, instead of being set every time you started the game, the seed somehow got perma-set when you made the file, right? It wasn't supposed to work the way it did, if I recall correctly.

It's an option when you talk to your cat-butler.

Man I'm loving this game. I upgraded my Lance, then wrecked the Bulldrome a few times and went gathering-crazy (Prowler mode forever) and made GaijinHunter's Atk Up Large set and am now wrecking my way through the story mode.

I really need to spend some time on Kiranico and pick a few weapons of my favored types to make so I don't get bogged down though.

The RNG does not agree with me. I'm trying to do the level 1 quests and the game refuses to give me quest items. First all the provided pickaxes broke before I could get the right mineral. So I redid the mission with a couple of iron pickaxes. Same thing happened with bug nets.

I figure gathering Kelbi Horns would be a walk in the park since I don't have to rely on a finite resource, but the kelbi won't respawn anymore and I need one more horn. :( Hopefully this isn't indicitive of the rest of the game.

Edit: Complaining on the internet works! Found another area with Kelbi and I got one!

Kelbi spawn in a few different areas; try going around looking for them. Small monsters never dissappear permanently from an area, but if you kill them enough they will stop showing up for a while.

Under new game on the title menu, there's the option to do bonus data or whatever it's called. Once you do that, the option will be on the chamberlain on any save file, you don't actually have to start a new save.

I'm with you on this. It took entirely too long for me to get 10 Unique Mushrooms, like way, way too long. But it was a subquest so that was just me being stupid.

Best advice for this overall though? If it's a gathering quest, go as a Prowler. Holy crap is it nice to never have to worry about pickaxes and nets.

What?

Guys help even though I mained GS in 4U and intended to use any other weapon in Gen I picked Arial GS to do all the braindead 1-2 star missions and its turning out to be really loving good so I can't switch away now.

I just finished making the Leaping set. Protip to anyone who's going that route: the set that looks like it'll give you Leaping (the skill that gives you increased damage on aerial attacks) has the wrong legs if you choose the first available version for the legs like you can every other armor piece. That'll just net you a set that gives you Stamina Drain, you have to make a different set of leg armor a page over that requires Larinoth Hide. The best way to grab that is the 2 star quest "A Berry Good Idea". Enjoy being able to oneshot small monsters with charged GS aerial attacks.

While I'm griping, why is cooking so weird now? Depending on what I choose apparently there's like 2-5 different sauces that have the exact same name, but have different effects when chosen. Why couldn't they keep the 4U cooking? It looks like the skills I can activate through sauces are the same if I choose the same dishes, this just makes it take twice as long for me to find a kitchen skill I'm looking for.

On an unrelated note, this isn't the same team that did MH4U, right? The gameplay is solid and good, but the dialogue feels like it's trying to emulate 4U and just not quite being good enough. I can appreciate the jokes for what they are, but 4U's stuff was a lot more...grounded or subtle I guess? It's a lot of little stuff I can't quite put into words and feels like nitpicking if I try to articulate.

Go on every quest as Prowler. I did a bunch of gathering quests to let the Meowstress find me good Fighting and Assist cats, then did some more to train them up a bit, now I'm wrecking through 3* Village with my pink cat in an orange afro (Tetsucabra armour) using his Big/Piercing Boomerangs and turning monsters into mincemeat.

My cat with the orange afro is called Peach, and he's killing huge dinosaurs with his friends Almond and Cupcake. Monster Hunter is a serious game for serious people.
