The first thing that came to mind when I read your post was St. Vincent, but I don't know if it's ever a straight-up mix of shoegaze underpinned by trip-hop; there are just elements poking about. Who knows, it might be what you're looking for. I guess give it a shot and report back maybe?

I'm looking for recent [female] vocal trance songs. Just something new, something chillstep preferably.

Things like Bullet Train by Steven Shwartz or Feel Me by Two Friends ft Priyanka Atreya. I like trap remixes of music like this, but darn youtube's search is so terrible and it's always recommending me music I've already heard.

If you know a song that's like this and relatively unknown, I'd love to hear it!

Is this kind of what you're talking about? I might be completely wrong.

You got me a gunrack?!? I don't even own a gun, let alone alone enough to nessecitate an entire rack.
So I need a Music Player recommendation.

I used to use Music Cube before they stopped development and I loved it. I switched to songbird which I was never really a big fan of and they recently shut down development. Is there a current popular open source player that everyone is using?

I'm fond of mmpsuf, which, I hope, fits.

Can you please add some specifics of what you're looking for. I started to think about some bands, but then was - hm... is this shoegaze enough?

Trip-hoppy beats/bass with spacey guitars and vocals. Actually now that I think of it, a perfect example of this is Bowery Electric. So basically more bands like Bowery Electric that really meld the two styles equally, and preferably ones that didn't break up in 2000. :(

[edit]Thanks for the suggestions below! :)

I'm with you goon sire! I like my hip hops how I like my milk-white and fresh! You may want to check out Macklemore or, if you're feeling a bit more edgy, Immortal Technique (he's a minority, but not too dark skinned so you shouldn't feel too scared).

Immortal Tech is a total joke and the recommendation of him was clearly sarcastic.

I normally don't give a poo poo about "conscious" hip-hop since my appreciation of the genre is limited to production and rhyme scheme, but CunninLynguists are pretty cool, and Blackalicious and Cannibal Ox are solid.

Also, check out Jam Baxter; a RYM pal has said good things about him.

Why is he a joke? From what i hear from him he has some decent tracks and some powerful lyrics.

He does like to ham it up to an extreme degree in some songs though.

He's a joke because he's the go-to rapper for college dudes who read about socialism for the first time and then go and buy mass produced Che shirts. Dude's been living off the rep he got for "Peruvian Coke" and has become one of a handful of "I don't like rap but..." rappers. He's a decent punchline rapper who's "political" songs are 90% conspiracy theories and gibberish, but since he's often talking about places outside of the US there's some added exoticism and less indictment of domestic policies which might make for uncomfortable listening.

Which is why someone like Cube isn't looked up to in those circles-Amerikkka's Most Wanted is way more incisive and flat out better than anything Tech has done, but if you're a suburban white dude songs about fighting the man seem better coming from the perspective of third world nations directed at the government, rather than dudes on the poor side of town directed at you.

Basically, he's a joke because the same type of idiot who would unironically complain about "bling" in rap is exactly the type of clown who would think Tech is amazing. And for better or worse, artists often are judged by the fanbases they attract.

Ah, got it. As a non-American i know as much people who like him as people who like stuff like Dead Prez, which is basically zero :v:

I do agree that even 2pac's social inspired songs have deeper meaning than IT, at least quality-wise.

Can anyone recommend me some songs like Cat's Eye/Yellow Fever (Running) by Van Der Graaf Generator? Very theatrical, melodramatic, driving songs. Violin optional. Another song that kind of fits the bill is Vivaldi by Curved Air (which just so happens to have a violin).

Probably too obvious to even bother mentioning, but what about Hurricane by Bob Dylan? It hits all the points you're looking for, including violin.

Does anyone have any recommendations to give me on something similar to 'Ghetto Funk'? Can anybody recommend any more music based off this very specific section of this very specific song?

http://youtu.be/mQYFftPr0b0?t=4m25s

The song is Leprous - Echo, and this part is just about one of my favorite parts off the entire album. I can't get enough of it, and I know there is more music similar to this part out there, I'm just not sure where.

Now, I'm not asking for more recommendations similar to Leprous as a whole as I have plenty of that (although I would be open to more), it's just this sound that I'm looking for.

Thanks!

I'm trying to find examples of rock/metal music with I guess non traditional percussion sections. Something that isn't just the standard drum kit. Does this exist? I'll take anything from sampled beats to tabla or whatever.
