I'm having to fight these mouth breathers at every god drat step! The culture here was just amazing. People used their company laptops as home devices and this was actually encouraged as a "perk" for the longest time. So we have different model Alien Wares and HP's and Lenovos all floating around with god knows what. Honestly I'm amazed that I was able to even convince management that this change needed to be made. I think getting hit by cryptolocker a while back changed some minds.

If they have more than 100 people, Bit9 may be something for them to look at. It's a software whitelisting system that pretty much stops malware cold. SHA-1 checksum doesn't match? YOU NO RUN NOW! Works amazing at the place I'm at. Malware jobs went from 3+ daily to maybe 1 per month.

If it was available for single user machines, I'd buy a copy in a heartbeat.

They are. MCP is if you pass any one MS exam. A+ and Net+ are entry level and I don't know about those VMWare certs but they don't sound like anything special

By having an enterprise person who keeps track of licensing? It's really not Microsoft's fault that vendors put OEM keys in the BIOS/EFI that Windows looks for. Someone on your side should be keeping track of this.

We have machines with Windows 7 Home licenses, but someone found out you could plug in a Dell OEM Win 7 Pro disc and it would go through its thing. I'm not going to blame Dell or Microsoft for that one.

One of the other guys in IT has Win 8 on his laptop, and has a valid license for it, but explained that the OEM key on his laptop is in use, because he put it on a VM.

It actually is though, due to the agreement you made when you installed the software.

As an "IT Manager" it is necessary to put the logos for all your certs in your signature??

His signature is longer than the emails we are sending to each other and even his replies to my emails have his signature in them.

These certifications would be great for someone who is either extremely junior, like helpdesk or in a non-technical role, like a salesperson.

I would be very worried about an IT manager who was proud of their A+

That's much like the argument against desktop mail clients versus webmail. Search and any form of navigation has always been significantly faster in webmail unless you are on some pigeon based Internet.

It helped out my team today. A process dragged on so long that the original emails had all gotten eaten by retention and only my boss' hard copy was left. It wasn't a CYA type email so no one bothered to save it off or up the retention date but it still would have chewed up an hour of a few peoples time to remember what all was in the original email.

Haven't bought or leased a house recently, huh?

Why these people insist on using 8.5x14 format and not adopting digital signatures is beyond me.

In the year of our lord, 2014, I had both of these things happen. Both involved the creation of a login to a "secure messaging portal" so I could retrieve blank PDF documents that I then had to print out, sign or initial (or sign AND initial) then rescan and send back. We are talking over a hundred pages here. Of course since the pages were 8.5x14 each page took 2 pages to print. Even "this page intentionally left blank" pages.

The kicker? I only used the secure portal to receive the blank forms. Once I had them filled out with all my personal credit information I was told to send them back via email.

Cut to me having to explain why my documents were in an encrypted password protected zip file instead of a "regular PDF". And then having to explain to the poor document processing drone how to unzip something. In Windows.

I bought and sold a house recently, and the vast majority of both transactions was done electronically. The technology exists, though I'm don't know if it's lack of demand from buyers or luddite agents that's keeping it from catching on more.
