I wouldn't want to call Wilt and Isiah outright idiots. They just have that familiar "back in my day everything was better" outlook. Like every person thinking their time was superior.

Also, it's probably amplified in famous athletes because they no longer have their athletic skills and need to preserve their egos. It's obvious that athleticism is still improving so they have to attack players intellect. It's like a coping/defense mechanism.

Mid-ranged jumpers (15' to 18') are just fine. Comparatively speaking, Griffin takes a lot of shots from a foot or two inside the line.

Considering his strengths, I don't see why he should take any of them.

November/December seems like a good time to practice those shots. They're still third in offence, so it's not like it's hurting them much.

You don't always have to go to advanced statistics to show that a player is poo poo. Any player who gets regular minutes in the NBA and shoots less than 40% from the floor is actively hurting his team. He's wasting possessions, giving opponents extra possessions, and quite possibly stalling the offense with bad shots and bad decisions.

Okay fine True Shooting % - Brandon Jennings was third worst among guards who received regular minutes last year. He was worse than Ricky Rubio on an extra five shots per game. He was only 17th worst in 2012/13 (good job!), but he played more minutes than anyone in the bottom 20 except Monta Ellis. 2010/11: 8th worst TS% among guards. So far this season? He's not in the bottom 20 (yay!), but he's still 60th.

Yes Brandon Jennings has had a decentish start to the 2014/15 season, but you'll have to forgive us if we think he'll revert to his established form. John Wall is no great shakes shooting the ball, but he makes up for it by being one of the best passers in the league. Ty Lawson's shooting has dipped over the first quarter of the season, but he should revert to his norm, which is as a player who hits both 2's and 3's at a decent-to-good rate.

Tae was using FG% to say Jennings was bad this year, but he isn't. He's not as good as Wall, obviously, but he's a lot cheaper and has been pretty decent. There are a lot of ways to talk about a players efficiency, but FG% is a really bad one, especially when your talking about a guy who is hitting a lot of 3s and getting to the line, two things FG% doesn't cover.

40% shooting for 2 points is awful.

Defenses should pop confetti every time Griffin takes a jump shot.

Edit: Awful is a strong word. It's way worse compared to Griffin doing anything at the rim though. Which is where he needs to be.

The Warriors haven't had any defensive falloff and their offense looks a lot better so far. He's willing to experiment with rotations, which is cool, and a couple of his questionable lineup decisions (starting Barnes, a big role for Mo Speights) have paid off really well. But then, when you're 15-2 every decision looks pretty good; there's a lot of season left for his weaknesses to become apparent.

Tangentially NBA-related, but I want Charles Barkley to revert back to his playing days and throw this guy through a window:

quote:

Charles Barkley is right in saying he isn’t Uncle Tom. Give credit to Uncle Tom for at least having some level of education, after all.

Barkley, as white America’s new favorite black guy, now that Bill Cosby has been disgraced, is Stepin Fetchit.

Want to be entertained by a stream of slow wit? Barkley’s your man, if you consider his brand of gibberish packaged as commentary on professional basketball entertaining. His delivery is as clunky as his well-chronicled awful, horrendous golf swing, but he says just enough off-the-wall stuff among the grunts and groans to keep himself employed.

He maintains his relevance as a social commentator, and yes, it is painful to have to write that sentence, considering, by giving white America what it wants to hear, and he did it again this week in media interviews about the fallout from the decision of a Missouri grand jury against indicting a police officer who shot an unarmed black teen.

“The true story came out from the grand jury testimony,” said Barkley, who later admitted not having read the grand jury testimony, which of course provided copious detail into how Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson gunned down 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The decision of the grand jury justifies itself, we have to believe from listening to Barkley, who also advises us to be careful with cops, because if we’re not, we’d be living in “the Wild, Wild West.”

To that, OK, Charles, point well made. Cops go rogue and kill a kid for stealing cigarettes, them’s the wages of sin, right?

“We as black people, we have a lot of crooks. We can’t just wait until something like this happens. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror,” Barkley said. “There is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right.”

This, of course, is what the Fox News set, the middle-class, conservative white folks who go out of their way to watch Glenn Beck, want to hear a black man say. Cops don’t kill innocent people; if a cop kills you, with a gun or with a chokehold, you probably deserved it.

The Uncle Tom of literature was beaten to death after refusing to betray two runaway slaves; Charles Barkley is going out of his way to throw every black person in America under the nearest bus. Bad analogy, trying to bring together those two.

Stepin Fetchit was a role played by an accomplished actor and writer who after early success with the trickster character fell out of favor with white audiences and became a depressing, grotesque caricature of himself in his later years.

Meaning that Barkley is a few steps looking up at even being Stepin Fetchit, which is wholly depressing considering how much cultural relevance this guy, for some reason, still seems to have.

gently caress Charles Barkley, while how the author decided to frame his takedown probably wasn't the most elegant, but the dude even said that Uncle Tom(from the book) wasn't that bad of a character.

What Barkley is saying is way loving worse than bringing up Uncle Tom, as it's endorsing and giving power to a justice system that is blatantly saying gently caress you to due process and any appearance of fairness. Like the entire process was complete bullshit and by just accepting it and then saying, well he stole some swishers he deserved it is exactly why we are in this position, as those who are in power can continue to get away with this poo poo since you have people endorsing that criminality is a reason to be killed if you are black. There are dudes who have literally committed murder who the police have managed to bring in alive, and yet a 6-4 police officer calls a black 20 year old an "it" Demonic mini hulk, and has to empty a clip. A Cop is allowed to roll up GTA style on a 12 year old and kill him in less than 4 seconds because gently caress it he's black and playing with a toy gun.

Does this mean the white author gets to go "I don't agree what with Charles Barkley has to say, so I get to refer to him with insults that black people consider equal to friend of the family"?
